Thunderbolts* takes inspiration from one of cinema’s most devastating scenes
Director Jake Schreier of “Thunderbolts” movie, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has shared that his film will draw inspiration from one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in cinema history – the scene with the incinerator from “Toy Story 3”.
In the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 5, we’ll witness an intriguing ensemble of anti-hero characters and reformed antagonists, who will confront catastrophic perils that could very well end our world as we know it.
In an interview with Empire, Schreier aimed to convey that there was a sense of imminent danger for the team. To emphasize this, he mimicked a memorable and poignant scene from Pixar’s third installment.
He mentioned that he had “Toy Story 3” with him, explaining that it didn’t strictly adhere to a specific genre but rather explored the relationships and dynamics among its characters. The characters share a common dynamic of being a team brought together in an unusual way.
The reason that sequence functions so effectively is that you’ve grown to care for those characters deeply. Will they manage to escape from the trash can as a team?
Schreier discusses how the movie portrays the group’s members attempting to deal with their struggles by relying on their relationships with one another. This idea is compared to the song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story, suggesting a similar theme of friendship and support.
The director clarified that they were discussing a set of characters who have committed numerous harmful acts, possibly grappling with self-acceptance issues.
There’s a significant aspect that touches upon mental well-being, solitude, and the shadows life sometimes casts. However, these shadows aren’t always remediable, but they can be alleviated by forging connections and discovering companionship instead.
The movie titled “Thunderbolts” is set to hit US theaters on May 2, and it’s now official that audiences in the UK can enjoy it one day ahead, on May 1.
