Thunderbolts Post-Credit Scene SHOCKS MCU Fans! You Won’t Believe Why!

The ending scene of “Thunderbolts*” marks an unprecedented occurrence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Phase 5 kicked off, with four movies having been released following this specific event. The thrilling post-credits sequence of “Thunderbolts*” has left fans buzzing, as it hints at connections to upcoming MCU films.

Jake Schreier, director of “Thunderbolts”, has clarified that he did not direct the film’s post-credit scene; instead, it was the Russo brothers who took charge. This marks a shift from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, as “Thunderbolts” is the first movie since “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” to have a post-credits scene directed by someone other than the film’s director, breaking a four-film continuity in the MCU.

Schreier further revealed that the Thunderbolts’ post-credits sequence was actually part of Avengers: Doomsday, a claim yet to be verified as Doomsday hasn’t been released. If true, it would mark the first instance of a post-credit scene being a segment from another project since Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

In simpler terms, Lewis Pullman, who plays in Sentry, hinted that the clip might be from the movie “Doomsday,” suggesting a possibility that this could indeed be the case.

A total of nine Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies have featured post-credit scenes that were directed by someone other than the main director.

Nine MCU films have included post-credits scenes directed by different individuals than the film’s primary directors.

Every MCU Post-Credits Scene That Was Helmed by a Different Director Than the Film

Iron Man 2 (Kenneth Branagh)

In Iron Man 2, Jon Favreau was the main director, but the post-credit sequence was actually directed by Kenneth Branagh, who is known for directing Thor. This sequence, in fact, served as a scene within the storyline of Thor.

Thor (Joss Whedon)

Ken Branagh oversaw the direction of Thor, but it was Joss Whedon who orchestrated the after-credit scene. This scene served as a bridge for Whedon’s transition to The Avengers (a film he also directed).

Captain America: The First Avenger (Joss Whedon)

Similar to Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger also included a post-credits scene, which was directed by Joss Whedon, despite the fact that he didn’t direct The First Avenger himself.

Thor: The Dark World (James Gunn)

The scene after the credits in “Thor: The Dark World” was orchestrated by director James Gunn, serving as a connection to “Guardians of the Galaxy.” This brief extra scene depicted the Collector acquiring one of the Infinity Stones.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Joss Whedon)

In the closing credits of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Joss Whedon was responsible for directing an additional scene as well. This scene played a crucial role in connecting the movie to “Avengers: Age of Ultron” because it introduced characters named Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, who later appeared in the Avengers film.

Ant-Man (Joe and Anthony Russo)

In the post-credits scene of Ant-Man, the directors were Joe and Anthony Russo, as that particular sequence originated from Captain America: Civil War, which they also directed.

Doctor Strange (Taika Waititi)

The filmmaker behind “Thor: Ragnarok”, Taika Waititi, was responsible for directing the post-credit scene in “Doctor Strange” that stemmed from “Ragnarok” and depicted Strange conversing with Thor.

Captain Marvel (Joe and Anthony Russo)

After the closing credits of Captain Marvel, scenes that directly connected to Avengers: Endgame were shown. These featured Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff (more on her potential return here), Don Cheadle’s Rhodey, and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. Notably, these scenes were directed by the Russo brothers, who also helmed Endgame.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (Kasra Farahani)

As a film enthusiast, I’d like to share an interesting tidbit about the post-credits scene from “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.” The captivating appearance of Jonathan Majors as Victor Timely was actually directed by Kasra Farahani. This is noteworthy because this particular scene wasn’t originally part of the Ant-Man universe, but rather it was taken from Loki Season 2, Episode 3 – an episode that just happened to be directed by Mr. Farahani himself.
