Thunderbolts Just Spoiled Its Own Post-Credit Scene in the Most Shocking Way!
Warning! This article contains major SPOILERS for Thunderbolts*
It’s likely that many weren’t the only ones left in a state of surprise when Marvel Studios accidentally spoiled the major twist at the beginning of the Thunderbolts post-credits scene. The Thunderbolts post-credits scene, which is one of the most impactful in recent times (apart from the post-credits scene for The Marvels), would have been even more powerful if it came without any advance notice. Regrettably, some viewers may have felt that the surprise was slightly diminished.
The movie “Thunderbolts” isn’t being criticized; instead, it’s long-awaited by Marvel fans like me. It was refreshing, vibrant, and managed to make even minor characters likeable, as well as introducing Lewis Pullman’s Bob, a character I’m eager to see more of. The post-credits scene was fantastic, but I found myself wishing my eyes had been elsewhere during the credits roll, which led us to that scene.
The Thunderbolts* Credits Included The Fantastic Four: First Steps Main Theme
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Credit Appeared Toward The End
In Marvel Cinematic Universe films, post-credits scenes are a common feature. However, the actual credits themselves usually don’t contain anything special. Fans typically don’t expect to find anything extraordinary while watching the credits. Unfortunately, this wasn’t true for the movie Thunderbolts, as its credits featured Michael Giacchino’s theme for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
In the context of the story so far, it was surprising and unusual for the music associated with “Thunderbolts*” to appear in the credits before any connections had been made to the upcoming MCU movie. Since this scene introduced an extradimensional anomaly, the shock value of the revelation was somewhat diminished. Despite being excited about seeing “Thunderbolts*” tie into the summer MCU film and “Avengers: Doomsday,” I can’t help but think that the experience might have been more impactful if it had been handled differently.
The Post-Credits Revelation Also Spoils The MCU’s Next Movie
Thunderbolts* May Have Revealed What Happens At The End Of The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Apart from the fact that the credits themselves revealed the post-credits scene for Thunderbolts*, this scene turned out to be a spoiler as well. It’s set 14 months after the main storyline of Thunderbolts*, which is quite a significant time jump, much like in Avengers: Doomsday. Moreover, the appearance of the Fantastic Four on Earth-616 hints at the upcoming Avengers film and reinforces the assumption about how The Fantastic Four: First Steps will conclude.
The previews for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” depict a grim scenario for the main characters. It appears that Galactus has targeted Earth for destruction, and throughout the film, there are numerous instances of multiversal collisions. This has sparked discussions among fans who think the Fantastic Four might try to escape their universe, potentially ending up on Earth-616 and within the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself. The upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie seems to support this theory, which could diminish the impact of the final scenes in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” as viewers may already anticipate the events that are supposed to unfold.
The Thunderbolts* Credits Spoiler Continues A Baffling Trend In The Franchise
Marvel Seems To Be Happy With Revealing Huge Developments
Instead of suggesting that the Fantastic Four’s spaceship might be a ruse, such as it potentially concealing another character like Doctor Doom himself, the post-credits scene and the credits themselves in the latest Marvel production indicate an unusual trend in their storytelling approach. Previously, Marvel was known for using misdirects (like featuring Hulk fighting alongside the Avengers in the Battle of Wakanda in the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War), but now it appears they’re more willing to disclose significant plot twists before a movie hits theaters.
A current instance is the aggressive promotion of Red Hulk in the marketing for Captain America: Brave New World, even though he plays a crucial role in the movie’s climax. Marvel Studios also hinted that the Thunderbolts would live on by featuring most of the main cast members from the team in the announcement for the Avengers: Doomsday lineup. Given these clues, I find it less likely that the spaceship is a red herring and that Marvel has actually revealed the ending of The Fantastic Four: First Steps before its premiere.
