Marvel Studios’ newest film Thunderbolts* has debuted with a strong Rotten Tomatoes rating.
This week, the latest installment of our superhero series hits screens – it’s number 36 and features an ensemble cast of characters who reluctantly team up to face one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s strongest antagonists.
Before its premiere, numerous critical reviews, most of which are favorable, have already been posted, indicating a promising response ahead.
As I compose this, the movie “Thunderbolts” boasts a highly favorable rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 135 critical appraisals.

*Rotten Tomatoes is a popular review aggregator website that provides ratings and reviews from critics for movies, TV shows, and video games. The scores are usually presented as a percentage of positive or fresh reviews out of the total number of reviews available.
So where does that land the film in the Rotten Tomatoes MCU movie rankings?
Presently, Thunderbolts is holding the 14th position in rankings, with Doctor Strange closely following due to their shared 89% score, but derived from different numbers of reviews (387 for Doctor Strange). Notably, Ant-Man and the Wasp trails slightly behind at an 87%.

Since Spider-Man: No Way Home, which premiered in December 2021, it’s now the highest-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film to date.
Wakanda Forever, and Deadpool & Wolverine.
It’s important to note that Rotten Tomatoes scores don’t tell the whole story, and both “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” along with Deadpool’s third installment, raked in a combined $2.15 billion at the box office. The question remains, will “Thunderbolts” achieve similar success among fans?

According to Digital Spy’s evaluation, we labeled the movie as a “tribute to the MCU at its finest, one that emphasizes its characters and their individual narrative over broader issues.
Just as James Gunn infused his unique style into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director Jake Schreier is also leaving his distinctive mark on the project.
Thunderbolts* is released in UK cinemas on 1 May and in US cinemas on 2 May.
