Marvel fans now know when Thunderbolts* will arrive on Disney+.
When is the Thunderbolts* Disney+ streaming release date?
As per a Greek Disney+ advertisement, it’s been announced that the TV series Thunderbolts* will debut on Disney+ streaming service on August 27, 2025. This is approximately three months after the movie version of this superhero team hits theaters. Prior to its arrival on Disney+, Thunderbolts* was available for digital download starting July 1, and it was released physically on July 29 in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats.
Under Jake Schreier’s guidance, Thunderbolts* assembled a group of six beloved characters from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe productions: Yelena Belova (portrayed by Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) from Black Widow, John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) from Ant-Man and the Wasp. This action-packed film featured these anti-heroes joining forces unwillingly to thwart the plans of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Lewis Pullman’s Bob/Sentry/Void.
*Note: “Thunderbolts” is a fictional superhero team in Marvel Comics, but this film seems to be using the title as a placeholder, as no official Thunderbolts team appears in the movie.
In the final moments of Thunderbolts*, Fontaine unexpectedly rebranded the title team and Bob Pullman as the New Avengers, a move that left many in the public scratching their heads. The post-credit scene hinted at their future appearances within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically in Avengers: Doomsday. There, we’ll see the New Avengers grappling with trademark issues while also welcoming the arrival of the Fantastic Four to their universe.
The cast of Pugh, Harbour, Russell, Stan, John-Kamen, and Pullman will be returning to their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles in the upcoming film, Doomsday. They’ll share the screen with other MCU veterans like Chris Hemsworth (as Thor), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Danny Ramirez (Falcon), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Channing Tatum (Gambit), and Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom).
In the impending event, six actors from the X-Men series by 20th Century Fox will reappear: Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. Previously, Grammer as Beast and Stewart as Professor X had already made comebacks in The Marvels and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In contrast, Doomsday will be their debut appearance in the MCU for McKellen’s Magneto, Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Romijn’s Mystique, and Marsden’s Cyclops.
The movie titled “Thunderbolts” will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting August 27, 2025. Conversely, “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026.
