Thunderbolts Director Hired For X-Men Reboot?
The initial film for Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot now boasts a well-regarded figure in its production team. Although mutants might not be ready yet to lead their own movie within the Marvel Studios banner, the creators of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have identified someone they believe will play a key role in introducing this new chapter of storytelling.
According to reports, director Jake Schreier is said to be discussing terms with Marvel Studios for their upcoming untitled X-Men film. Although an agreement has not been finalized yet, following a meeting in early May 2025, he seems to be the studio’s preferred candidate to helm this significant new production (as per Deadline).
After completing work on the movie “Thunderbolts,” which was released on May 2 and marks his directorial debut with the studio, Schreier is gaining recognition. Although Phase 5’s closing film hasn’t topped the box office, it has received exceptional reviews from critics and fans following press screenings and fan events held in late April and early May.
At present, Schreier is one of the two individuals associated with the upcoming X-Men film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This script is currently being penned by Michael Lesslie, who previously wrote for “The Hunger Games.” As of now, information remains scant about which characters will dominate this movie or its narrative, and it does not yet have a confirmed release date.
