“Thrilling” historical drama Nuremberg with all-star “powerhouse” cast coming to cinemas next month

A new trailer has been released for Nuremberg, a historical drama featuring a talented cast. The film commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg trials and will be shown in UK cinemas starting November 14th.

The new trailer for the upcoming film, directed by James Vanderbilt, shows Russell Crowe as Hermann Göring, the notorious Nazi leader. Early reactions highlight Crowe’s chilling performance in the role.

I recently played this game, Nuremberg, and it’s really interesting because it’s based on the actual Nuremberg trials after World War II. The game takes a lot of inspiration from Jack El-Hai’s book, The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, which dives into the whole story of those trials and how the Allies tried to deal with the defeated Nazis.

Rami Malek, known for his role in Bohemian Rhapsody, will also star in the film. He plays Douglas Kelley, an American psychiatrist responsible for determining the mental state of Nazi war criminals.

The film also stars Michael Shannon, Richard E. Grant, Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Lydia Peckham, and Wrenn Schmidt, completing the impressive cast.

The film follows the Allied prosecutors, led by Robert H. Jackson (played by Shannon), as they work to hold the Nazi leaders accountable for the atrocities of the Holocaust. Meanwhile, a US Army psychiatrist (Malek) engages in a tense psychological battle with Hermann Göring (Crowe), a top Nazi official.

I checked out the movie after seeing it premiered at Toronto, and honestly, the reviews are all over the place. Right now, it’s sitting at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s definitely not a slam dunk, but not a total flop either.

Deadline called Nuremberg a captivating battle of wits between its two Oscar-winning stars. They highlighted Russell Crowe’s powerful and nuanced portrayal of Hermann Goring – calling it one of his best and most challenging roles – and praised Rami Malek as the film’s quietly heroic figure.

Shade Studios called Nuremberg one of the most compelling films at TIFF, praising its captivating story, strong acting, and polished presentation. They highlighted it as a standout among many excellent movies.

Okay, so I just read a review of Nuremberg, and honestly, it sounds a little…flat. The reviewer from Screen Daily said the characters felt a bit one-dimensional, like they weren’t really living. They described the whole thing as technically well-made, but ultimately feeling more like a really polished history lesson than a truly engaging experience. It’s like watching a reenactment instead of getting lost in a story, you know?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film features strong performances from Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon, and appears to be a potential awards nominee.

Nuremberg will be released in UK cinemas on 14 November.
