Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has provided news about a potential second season of the historical drama Taboo, which stars Tom Hardy. Knight co-created Taboo alongside Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy, and recently discussed the possibility of another season.
The show, which premiered in 2017 and is set in the 19th century, stars Tom Hardy as James Keziah Delaney, an adventurer who comes back to England after spending twelve years in Africa. Fans on IMDb have praised it as a “masterpiece” and a consistently exciting watch.
Set in 1814 London, this historical drama follows Delaney’s search for answers about his father’s death, uncovering crime and corruption along the way. The cast includes Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, and Stephen Graham.

Everyone was talking about a second season being made, and honestly, I was hoping for one too, but it never actually happened. We never got any new episodes, sadly.
Knight has given fans renewed hope that Delaney will return, sharing that he and Hardy have been talking about plans for a continuation of the story.

Tom and I have discussed it, and we have a pretty good idea of what our next steps would be,” he told Radio Times.
Honestly, it’s mostly about making time for it. People ask me about it all the time, especially when I’m over in the States – I get that question a lot.
I remember back in 2021 when Tom Hardy publicly said he was still dedicated to making more of Taboo. He emphasized how much the show meant to him, and that he and Steven Knight were still brainstorming ideas to keep Delaney’s story going. It was great to hear they hadn’t forgotten about it!

Tom Hardy told Esquire that he’s put a lot of thought into the second season of Taboo. He loved the first season and wants the second one to be just as satisfying.
He explained they were still exploring different approaches to the story. They could follow a straightforward timeline, start the story before the events in London, or even jump around in time. He wasn’t sure if sticking to a traditional format – there were already several similar stories – was the best way to go.
You can watch all eight episodes of the show’s first season right now on BBC iPlayer. It’s currently the only season available.
Taboo season 1 is on BBC iPlayer.
