Thor is no stranger to being betrayed, even though he’s naturally honest and straightforward. But that doesn’t make it any easier when someone he trusted turns against him. In fact, a former friend is now seeking revenge, as seen in Thor #2.
In Thor #2, writer Al Ewing and artist Pasqual Ferry continue the tale of Sigurd Jarlson, a construction worker who’s lost his memory. Sigurd only vaguely recalls his past, but he knows he’s skilled with tools and doesn’t tolerate anyone who picks on others. This brings him into trouble with the Thunder Gods, a dangerous biker gang who falsely claim to be followers of Norse mythology.
Okay, so picture this: Sigurd, he’s *really* determined, finds where these Thunder Gods hang out – a dive bar, naturally – and just absolutely destroys them. It’s a seriously epic beatdown, like a true thunder god should deliver. My crew and I, we’d been doing some dirty work for Roxxon, breaking up a strike, and we hear about it. We pass the info up the chain, and suddenly we’re talking to some *very* powerful people – a guy they call ‘the head of the snake,’ and another who deals with… let’s just say, ‘problem solvers.’ Then, the final panel hits you like a lightning bolt: this ‘head of the snake’ is Donald Blake! You know, the guy who *used* to be Thor? It’s a huge twist, and honestly, a really cool connection. It makes you rethink everything!

Why Donald Blake turned against Thor explained
It might be surprising to learn that Donald Blake wasn’t actually a person, despite being known as Thor’s secret identity for a long time. Originally, it seemed like Dr. Blake was a normal man who became Thor. However, later stories explained that Blake was actually an illusion created by Odin. Odin made him to hide the true spirit of his son, meaning there was never a real person named Donald Blake.
As a huge Thor fan, I was completely blown away by a reveal in the comics! Apparently, back in 2020’s *Thor Vol. 6 #10*, Jormungand – you know, the massive serpent fated to kill Thor at Ragnarok – actually told Blake a dark secret. Jormungand was trying to manipulate Blake, hoping to use him against Asgard, and even gave him a piece of his power. But here’s the twist: Blake didn’t fall for it! He combined that stolen power with his existing connection to the Odinforce and actually *killed* Jormungand, absorbing all of the serpent’s power for himself. It was a total game changer!

After that, Blake also started acting like the God of Lies. Loki once managed to imprison him in Asgard, but Blake broke free and vowed to get revenge on everyone there. What happened to him after that was unknown for a while, but it appears he came to Earth and is now working with Roxxon to try and defeat Thor.
Thor #2 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
