A24 just dropped a new trailer for their upcoming horror movie, Backrooms. The film is based on the creepy idea of a place that exists outside of our world – an infinite maze of empty, strangely damp-smelling rooms.
The first glimpse was brief, but the full trailer showcases Chiwetel Ejiofor and the rest of the cast as the main character, Clark, stumbles upon a bizarre new dimension and becomes consumed with understanding it.
The film also includes scenes presented as “found footage,” reminiscent of the original viral short films created by director Kane Parsons, who also directed this feature-length movie.

As a huge fan, I’m seriously excited about this new trailer! It perfectly captures that nostalgic, unsettling feeling you get from the backrooms – those endless, empty spaces just get under your skin. Everyone seems to be buzzing about finally getting to explore that maze of identical rooms, and honestly, me too!
Wow, I’m seriously hyped after watching this trailer! One person on YouTube put it perfectly – it looks absolutely perfect. And honestly, it’s been a decade since I last went to the cinema for a new release, but I’m definitely making an exception for this one!

One fan pointed out that the entrance to the Backrooms being in the same place as the original photo was a clever nod to the source material. Others complimented the music, which was taken directly from the original short films.
Honestly, seeing big-name actors and that super polished, cinematic look you’d expect from a blockbuster mixed with Kane’s gritty, found footage style? It just works. It’s a perfect combo, in my opinion, like they were made for each other. That’s what one commenter said, and I totally agree!
One fan joked that the buzzing fluorescent light in the trailer would be awful to hear in a large IMAX theater, but they were still excited. Another fan appreciated that the trailer didn’t reveal too much of the movie’s plot or scares.

Many are surprised to learn that these online shorts and the movie itself all started as something popular on the website 4chan.
At only 20 years old, Parsons is a remarkably young director for a big Hollywood film, and he’s working from a script written by Will Soodik. The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, along with Renate Reinsve and Mark Duplass.
Backrooms is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 29 May.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
