This Week in Star Wars Comics: The week of one-shots
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Star Wars lore under my belt, this September is shaping up to be quite the rollercoaster ride! The one-shot trend may seem a tad peculiar at first glance, but it’s clear that these stories are bridges connecting the dots within the expansive Star Wars universe.
This week sees a variety of releases kicking off September. What makes these titles unusual is that most of them are standalone issues rather than ongoing series. As a whole, this month seems to be a period of transition, as many prominent comics will conclude in preparation for the relaunch comic events scheduled for October
Let’s buckle in for a wild four weeks, and dive into This Week in Star Wars Comics.
The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1
“The Acolyte – Kelnacca #1” evokes a mix of sweetness and sadness following the show’s cancellation. Yet, anticipation for this book remains high, as Kelnacca was one of the characters who deserved extended screen time. This book also promises an intriguing connection between the earlier High Republic narrative and events a century later leading up to “The Acolyte“
The High Republic Adventures: Crash and Burn
The next one-shot on the list is The High Republic Adventures: Crash and Burn. Crash Ongwa and her team have a tense allyship with the supposedly ex-Nihil, Krix Kamerat. Their mission is to assassinate the leader of the Nihil, Marchion Ro, and bring an end to his reign of terror. However, will Krix keep his word or trick them? This all-ages comic from Dark Horse Comics was written by Daniel José Older and illustrated by Nick Brokenshire. The cover artist is Rachele Aragno.
The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear #1
This week, “The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear #1” initiates a new miniseries. This comic suitable for all ages focuses on Jedi Knight Reath Silas and his Padawan, Amadeo Azzazzo. They embark on an adventure to explore the past of the enigmatic Sith Lord, Darth Ravi, in their mission to unveil the mystery of the Echo Stones. These relics intensify the user’s connection with the Force, enhancing their power significantly. Whether they aid the Jedi or bring about their downfall remains to be seen. “The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear #1” is penned by George Mann and features illustrations by Vincenzo Federici and Vincenzo Riccardi, with Eduardo Mello as cover artist
Star Wars Vol. 8: The Sith and the Skywalker by Charles Soule
This week, I got my hands on an intriguing read: Star Wars Vol. 8: The Sith and the Skywalker by Charles Soule. As Luke Skywalker, I’m on a mission to uncover ways to vanquish Darth Vader, but things take an unexpected turn when I accidentally project my consciousness into the past, squaring off against another formidable Sith Lord. Simultaneously, Lando Calrissian finds himself in hot water for allegedly peddling Rebellion secrets to save his buddy, Lobot. The charge? Treason! The only way out for Lando seems to be by aiding in the rescue of Mon Mothma – quite the pickle indeed!
That’s is for another edition of This Week in Star Wars Comics! See you in the splash pages!
