This Week in Star Wars Comics: August goes out quietly

As a seasoned Star Wars comic enthusiast with decades of collecting under my belt, I must say that August was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for us fans. We’re in this peculiar phase where several series are either wrapping up or getting ready to bid adieu next month. The forthcoming months promise to be exhilarating, brimming with significant comic events setting the stage for 2025. With the much-loved Doctor Aphra making a comeback, it’s an invigorating time indeed for Star Wars comic aficionados!

This August saw some unusual happenings in the Star Wars comic world. We’re currently in a transitional phase as numerous series are concluding or will do so next month. The upcoming months promise to be thrilling, with many significant comic events scheduled to kick off 2025. Notably, the beloved character Doctor Aphra is making a comeback. It’s an exhilarating time for fans of Star Wars comics!

Nevertheless, this week may not be particularly captivating, but we’re ready for another installment of This Week in Star Wars Comics. Let’s get started!

Star Wars: Ahsoka #2

In terms of comic adaptations, I find myself repeating the same sentiment: they’re not particularly groundbreaking so far. Unfortunately, Star Wars: Ahsoka doesn’t seem to be following in the footsteps of the outstanding Rogue One: A Star Wars Story adaptation, which enriched the storyline with additional scenes and content. However, if you’re an avid fan of the show and enjoy fresh artwork featuring your beloved characters, then these comics are for you. The second issue, Ahsoka #2, is penned by Rodney Barnes, with Georges Jeanty handling the art, and Taurin Clark contributing to the cover design.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Volume 1 (Phase III)

This week, there’s a new trade paperback release: “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Volume 1” from Dark Horse Comics. This collection comprises the initial five issues of the Phase III series. The story continues a year after the fall of Starlight Beacon, following Zeen and Qort as they continue their search for their lost comrades while engaging the malevolent Nihil. If you’ve been following the escapades of Lula, Zeen, Qort, and Farzala, this is a must-have. However, it might not be the ideal starting point for new readers as it expands on the Phase I story. “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Volume 1” is penned by Daniel José Older and illustrated by Harvey Tolibao.

Wrapping up August’s Star Wars comic adventures, we move on to September. The ongoing Star Wars and Darth Vader series are set to conclude then, promising exciting discussions for the next This Week in Star Wars Comics!

See you in the splash pages!
