Recently, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth became available on PC platforms, enabling users to customize their gaming experience with modifications (mods). Among the various mods developed for FF7 Rebirth is one that reinstates Tifa’s original appearance, a change some players attribute to Square Enix’s censorship policies. FF7 Rebirth classic Tifa mod

On the well-known modding platform Nexus Mods, user SweetFluff3D shared the “Classic Original Tifa Outfit” modification for FF7R. Essentially, this mod changes Tifa’s black undershirt and shorts to her Costa del Sol bikini bottoms, with an option to keep or remove her stockings.

As of the time of writing, the mod has over 4,000 unique downloads and almost 28,000 views.

As a dedicated admirer, I’d like to share that SweetFluff3D, much like their work on my favorite game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, has also crafted another remarkable mod. This particular creation has been downloaded a whopping 44,000 times and boasts an astounding half a million views!

How to install the FF7R classic Tifa mod

Since this mod does not have any requirements or pre-requisites, installing it is simple.

After that, navigate to the modification page where you can download the mod. Make sure to choose between the two variations depending on whether you prefer the stockings or not.

This download comes with three files. Place all three files on your ~mods folder.

According to the creator of the popular Tifa FF7R modification, this is a preliminary or test version, implying there will be additional updates in the future.

Similar Tifa mods for FF7 Rebirth

Another user-created mod named “Another Classic Tifa,” by TheWolfster, performs quite similarly. For those aiming for a more authentic appearance, this option could be the superior choice.

This modification alters Tifa’s skirt to a more authentic design akin to her initial and Dissidia outfits, which is currently still under development.

The modifying procedure remains similar, but it necessitates the “Tifa Invisible Weapons” mod for operation. To get things rolling, just download the two mods and unzip their contents into your designated ‘mods’ folder. With any luck, everything will run smoothly!

Community reaction to “uncensoring” Tifa

In an interview with Famitsu, Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura mentioned that it was important to keep Tifa’s chest area modest for a more realistic look in the fight scenes, as suggested by their ethics department. This decision led to her wearing a black undershirt in the Remake trilogy. Whether this can be classified as censorship is subjective.

On platform X (previously known as Twitter), opinions among vocal users about this mod vary. Some argue that it eliminates the censorship imposed by Square Enix, while others believe it serves to tone down Tifa’s excessively sexualized portrayal.

The widespread acclaim for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth might lead to online disputes, given the vast player base means a collision of viewpoints and disagreements. A recent controversy even surfaced regarding a mod for Final Fantasy VII Remake. In an earlier flashback scene, Tifa was seen wearing a cowgirl outfit, but her initial release version featured a more revealing attire. This was subsequently corrected with a patch, adding a black undershirt to her outfit.

The modification that restored an earlier version of the cutscene, containing a character possibly portrayed as underage and controversial content, has been taken down from the Nexus Mods website.
