This Star Trek legend is absolutely correct about how to perceive the franchise
As a die-hard Trekkie who’s been following this franchise since the original series, I can attest that landing a role in Star Trek is like winning a golden ticket to a galaxy far, far away. It’s not just about the fame or the fortune; it’s about being part of something bigger than yourself, something that resonates with millions worldwide.
As a passionate fan, landing a role in Star Trek feels like seizing an opportunity that transcends a lifetime. Although it may not necessarily ensure bigger and better prospects post-Star Trek, the fervor and devotion of its fans, who span across galaxies, guarantees eternal recognition. The Star Trek franchise is more than just a brand; it’s a legacy that echoes in the hearts of its fans long after the actors have hung up their uniforms.
Landing a role in Star Trek is like securing a long-term, rewarding job. Once you’re onboard, you can sail this ship for many years. Being part of Star Trek is more than just an honor; it’s a privilege that allows some actors to build entire careers from conventions and fan interactions. It’s quite impressive to be a former actor from Star Trek.
What makes it all the more remarkable is that those donning these uniforms and embodying these characters are well aware of the honor bestowed upon them by taking on these roles. In an interview with The Guardian, Star Trek: Enterprise actor Scott Bakula expressed his delight in portraying Captain Jonathan Archer, the show’s central figure, stating;
It was a blast. It was a great privilege. The icing on the cake is to get to know [William] Shatner and Patrick [Stewart] and and(SIC) Kate [Mulgrew] and everybody.
They’re all really fun and different people. There’s a burden in that sci-fi fans have a very high standard. If they don’t like you then it’s not good but, when they do embrace you, it’s a lovely marriage.
Despite the fact that Star Trek: Enterprise wasn’t universally adored when it initially aired, it’s remarkable that Scott Bakula still cherishes his role on the series more than two decades later. He endured much criticism for his performance on the ship, which we believe was unfair. The fans weren’t always understanding and many were tired of the franchise at that time.
Over time and as we look back, it’s become clear that his role in Star Trek was truly remarkable and significant. Although Star Trek: Enterprise might not reach the iconic status of The Next Generation or The Original Series, it certainly stands its ground against any other Star Trek production.
