This scene from The Mandalorian gives me hope for Din Djarin’s future

Looking ahead to next year’s grand cinematic appearance of Din Djarin and Grogu, it’s clear that their roles will significantly shape the future of Star Wars. However, since the series started five years ago, the principal character has experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows.

Initially, it appeared that he would be confined to his small corner of the galaxy, destined to spend his days solely as a bounty hunter. However, as Djarin crossed paths with individuals like Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker, and took on a Force-sensitive child, his role in the Star Wars universe started to expand significantly.

In the latest season of “The Mandalorian,” Din Djarin’s narrative appears to be at a standstill, despite earlier hints suggesting a significant decision for him. With the Darksaber in his custody, the show had the potential to redefine his journey and emphasize his transformation into a leader. However, it’s been established that Din shows no inclination towards leading Mandalorians. A detail from the very first episode of the series has lingered in my memory, though, which seems unresolved.

In Chapter 1, our helmeted protagonist discovered himself on the desolate planet Arvala-7, a barren expanse under his boots. Mando, in pursuit of a valuable possession, was making his way through Arvala’s rugged landscape when he encountered a blurrg. Just as things looked dire, an Ugnaught named Kuiil intervened and saved him from the beastly attack. As days passed, Kuiil and Djarin formed a bond. For Kuiil, this chance encounter with a Mandalorian was momentous. He had merely heard tales of their existence, including tales of Mandalorians riding the colossal Mythosaur.

Before Kuiil consented to escort him to the location where the asset was being kept, he made it clear that Djarin needed to master riding a blurrg first. Traveling such a distance on Arvala-7 without one wasn’t an option. Djarin attempted to domesticate one but gave up almost immediately. It was then that Kuiil reminded him, “Remember, you are a Mandalorian. Your forebears rode the Great Mythosaur.

Kuiil’s suggestion subtly foreshadowed the appearance of a Mythosaur on the series. In season 3, this mythical creature made its debut, albeit not rising from the life-giving waters as expected. However, considering it might reappear, the connection between the Mythosaur and future events seems plausible. Although some spectators assume the Mythosaur served to boost Bo-Katan’s self-confidence, I remain convinced that Din Djarin’s fate is intrinsically linked to this enigmatic creature.

In season 3, Din and Grogu were seen teaming up like partners. As Grogu gains confidence in his skills, he might assist his father in ways that even a bounty hunter wouldn’t anticipate. It’s possible that Grogu could even tame the fearsome Mythosaur creature. However, their bond is so strong they are often referred to as a “Clan of Two”. They complement each other, and it seems Kuiil’s advice about Din’s ancestors riding the Mythosaur hints at a future where the Mandalorian could ride one too.

It’s wonderful to imagine that if Kuiil’s prophecy comes true, it suggests Din’s destiny was set in Chapter 1, but it took time for him to realize it. Taming the Mythosaur could show his greatness, even though he initially resisted leadership. Mando and Grogu have brought tranquility and wealth wherever they go, such as Kuiil’s valley on Arvala-7, Mos Pelgo, and the city of Calodan on Corvus. If they ride the Mythosaur, it could signal a new period of peace and prosperity for Mandalore, marking the start of a magnificent new era for the planet and its inhabitants.
