This near-perfect drama that “grabs you from the start” has just landed on Netflix

The highly praised drama titled “BlackBerry,” featuring Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton, is now available for streaming on Netflix.

The movie portrays the tale of a renowned mobile phone, detailing the dynamic between co-creator Mike Lazaridis (played by Baruchel) and co-CEO Jim Balsillie (portrayed by Howerton), as their business experiences various ups and downs.

Under Matt Johnson’s direction, a film he also starred in and co-wrote with Matthew Miller, made a quiet debut on the big screen in 2023. However, due to its addition to Netflix today (July 19), it is expected to reach a broader audience in the UK.

Featuring a robust ensemble featuring Cary Elwes and Rich Sommer, the film BlackBerry received widespread praise upon its debut. The movie has maintained a remarkable approval rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 211 reviews.

The website’s critical consensus is that BlackBerry, with its wit as keen as its humor, offers an engaging and humorous exploration of the rise and fall of a device that shaped a generation. Time Out refers to it as a “darkly comical corporate drama.

Empire Magazine also gave a favorable review, commending the actor’s performance by stating: “A business comedy filled with blunders – however, the movie truly excels because of Howerton, whose imposing, shark-like portrayal turns him into an unforgettable villain.

In a similar vein, The Ringer deemed Howerton as the star performer in the movie, while the Chicago Sun-Times highlighted it as an intelligent, captivating gem that grips viewers from the beginning and holds their attention throughout.

In simpler terms, Consequence expressed that the key point about BlackBerry isn’t a tale of heroism for anyone involved; rather, it’s an exploration of being both intelligent and unintelligent in different ways. The Los Angeles Times found this narrative to be captivating.

As a gamer, I was bummed out to find that one of my favorite action-packed movies, ” ’71,” starring Jack O’Connell, is about to vanish from Netflix’s collection by August 4th. The adrenaline-pumping drama has been a must-watch for me, and I can’t help but feel a bit tense knowing it won’t be around much longer.

BlackBerry is streaming now on Netflix.

Here it comes! Grab your copy of “Oasis – Live in ’25” from newsstands or online stores, now available for only £8.99.
