The BBC has acquired a new “nail-biting” psychological thriller that’ll have viewers “addicted”.

The four-episode French drama, *The Intruder*, centers on a mother who invites a stranger into her house, with unexpected and dramatic results.

The show features Mélanie Doutey as Paula, a mom who’s almost finished with her maternity leave and decides to hire a young caregiver, Tess (played by Lucie Fagedet), to help out.

This gripping thriller keeps you guessing as Paula starts to distrust her new coworker, who quickly wins everyone else over. The story is packed with unexpected turns and explores the unsettling feeling of suspicion.

Tess appears to be the ideal child, and everyone loves her. However, Paula immediately feels something is off, especially after a string of mishaps that make it seem like Tess is deliberately causing problems. When Paula voices her concerns that Tess might be dangerous, no one believes her.

Could new motherhood be making her feel anxious and suspicious? Or is Paula keeping secrets of her own? And Tess definitely didn’t just happen to walk into their house…

Sue Deeks, head of BBC Programme Acquisition, described the new series – directed by Shirley Monsarrat – as a captivating and highly engaging watch.

She described *The Intruder* as a sleek and suspenseful thriller that slowly ratchets up the tension, creating a thrilling and addictive viewing experience right to the final moments.

Written by Nathalie Abdelnour and Nathalie Saugeon, the film *The Intruder* features performances by Éric Caravaca, Fagedet, and Doutey.

We don’t have a release date for *The Intruder* yet. However, if you’re looking for a French mystery thriller in the meantime, Netflix offers *Under a Dark Sun*.

The six-episode series, featuring Ava Baya, Isabelle Adjani, and Guillaume Gouix, became popular with audiences after being released on the streaming service in July.

A young mother fleeing a difficult past finds her life turned upside down when she’s suspected of murdering her new employer at a flower farm – only to then learn he is, in fact, her father.

Under a Dark Sun is streaming now on Netflix.
