This Morning hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard are snubbed an NTA nomination as fan favourite co-star Alison Hammond throws them out the category
As a dedicated follower of the dynamic world of television presenters, I must express my dismay at the snubbing of Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard by the National Television Awards this year. Despite their impressive run on This Morning, these two talented individuals have been overlooked in the Best TV Presenter category, leaving me feeling a tad disappointed.
It was disappointing that Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard didn’t receive a nomination for the Best TV Presenter category at this morning’s National Television Awards.
Although the program they host has been nominated for a Daytime award, Cat, aged 47, and Ben, aged 49, were not successful in winning – despite being recruited by ITV executives in March following the departure of previous hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield from the show.
In simpler terms, their popular co-host, Alison Hammond, aged 49, has been nominated again for Best TV Presenter and is now in contention to win this category.
Last year, This Morning missed out on the Best Daytime TV award for the first time in 12 years.
In the TV presenter category, Alison will be competing with Bradley Walsh, Claudia Winkleman, Stacey Solomon, and Ant and Dec, a group that has held the title for an impressive 22 consecutive years.
On Fridays, Alison co-hosts ‘This Morning’ with Dermot O’Leary, whereas Cat and Ben take turns hosting from Monday through Thursday.
Two months after Cat and Ben took over the ITV show, viewing figures plummeted by half.
In February, it was formally declared that Ben and Cat would be taking over as the new hosts of This Morning, following several months of rumors.
According to reports from the channel, there was a great sense of excitement among them upon completing the signing of the duo, having navigated through numerous challenges during the negotiation process.
Initially, it was The Mail that disclosed that the pair were at the pinnacle of consideration for the role. However, in December, Cat declined the part because her schedule didn’t allow her enough time for the program.
After some additional discussions and a higher compensation package, she ultimately accepted my proposition. As it turns out, she was their top choice from the start, and now they’ve secured her services. This development is absolutely thrilling for them!
It might be that the unexpected change of direction was due to financial reasons, as Cat stands to receive a substantial payment becoming the new host.
Last year when rumors surfaced that she would appear on the show, it was suggested that both she and Ben were set to earn a yearly salary of approximately £555,000.
Despite being substantial, the salary was significantly less than what Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield reportedly earned, with estimates suggesting they each received around £700,000 yearly for their hosting duties.
Holly departed from the show back in October, choosing to prioritize her family, following the unraveling of an aborted kidnapping and murder scheme that targeted her. To this day, her position on the show hasn’t been filled permanently.
Five months after Philip’s exit, her departure occurred, following the revelation of Philip’s affair with a young male showrunner and rumors of a deteriorating partnership with her co-host, which had become more tense over time.
Philip stepped away from the limelight in May, following a public scandal involving an affair, ultimately leading to his exit from “This Morning” after more than two decades on the program.
Following numerous rumors concerning his personal life, the affair he was involved in eventually became public knowledge. He confessed to feeling both shattered and ashamed by the situation, yet he emphasized that he did not engage in any form of grooming.
He stated that the situation didn’t seem like a misuse of power to him since he and his associate were friends all along. Speaking with The Sun, he acknowledged his unprofessional behavior on a single occasion over the course of his 41-year career. He admitted there is no justification for his actions. No one else was at fault other than himself.
During his initial talk after departing from the broadcasting company and This Morning, the 61-year-old host stated emphatically: ‘I did not, I absolutely did not engage in grooming behavior.’
There have been various allegations made. However, since we’ve grown friendly, it didn’t seem that way to me. I’m not sure about the claims, but I do realize that there will be a significant evaluation. Yet, it’s important to note that I’ve never found myself in a position where such judgement would apply.
