This Morning host Cat Deeley reveals Holly Willoughby’s ‘classy move’ when she got the job and shares plans to meet ‘once the dust has settled’ – as she admits she’d QUIT over scrutiny
As a dedicated follower and ardent admirer of television personalities, I find myself deeply moved by Cat Deeley’s heartfelt account of her journey with This Morning. Having spent years working in the U.S, where the limelight was less intense, she has now found herself under the constant scrutiny that comes with being a mainstay on British television. However, her unwavering spirit and resilience are truly inspiring.
Cat Deeley recently shared insights into her time on This Morning, discussing a thoughtful act by Holly Willoughby and explaining why she might step away from the program.
The television host, aged 47, who began working there permanently in March of this year, took on the position of co-host alongside Ben Shepherd following numerous stints as a stand-in presenter.
The audience and show producers greatly enjoyed having the cat appear, leading them to eagerly consider making her a permanent fixture on the program.
As a lifestyle expert and mom to energetic boys Milo, age 8, and James, age 5, I proudly stand by my choices and couldn’t be bothered by any criticism that comes my way, with the unwavering support of my wonderful husband Patrick Kielty by my side.
Among those who made her feel at ease during the program was Holly Willoughby, a previous host for fourteen years, as she shared the thoughtful gesture exhibited by the celebrities upon joining the show.
She told the Sunday Times: ‘Holly sent me a beautiful bunch of flowers and a handwritten card. It was a really classy move, it really touched me.’
Cat also detailed her plans to meet up with Holly, adding: ‘At some stage, once the dust settles, I’m sure we will get together. People always talk about women being pitted against other women but actually it’s just not true.’
On her Instagram account, Holly, aged 42, declared that she won’t be coming back to the daytime show. She explained her choice was in the best interest of herself and her family.
2023 proved challenging for Holly as she endured numerous setbacks, starting with the tarnishing of her golden girl image in what became known as ‘Queuegate’. This was when allegations arose that she and her former co-host, Phillip Schofield, had cut in line during the lying-in-state ceremony for Queen Elizabeth II.
At that moment, it was reported that Holly was deeply upset due to the shift in public perception towards her and the ensuing scandal, which allegedly strained her connection with Philip, who is 62 years old. Sources close to them suggested that signs of tension started appearing between the once closely bonded duo.
In the ensuing months, tensions among the co-hosts and their circle of friends escalated even more. The situation reached a boiling point when news broke about Philip engaging in a relationship with a junior coworker, which, though not breaking any laws, was deemed unwise.
After spending many years working in the U.S, where she wasn’t subjected to the same level of intense attention, Cat acknowledged that this ongoing examination is a novel experience for her.
When inquired about being surprised, she responded affirmatively, mentioning that many people have been reaching out to her, expressing concern about her wellbeing and asking if she’s managing alright.
The cat asserted that, should the task ever become too heavy, she wouldn’t hesitate to leave, putting it simply: “If things get tough, I’m out of here.”
“I have the option to stay home and focus on motherhood for much of the year, and then travel to the U.S. for performances when needed. I don’t have any hidden reasons for making this choice.”
During the summer, the cat residing temporarily in a northern London rental house (as their permanent residence undergoes renovation), enjoyed a vacation in stylish Saint Tropez with their little family.
Over their summer vacation, various temporary hosts took turns presenting the show when the regular hosts were away.
Starting off the summer series on July 15, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary opened the stage, with a blend of familiar personalities subsequently taking their seats on the couch.
Alongside Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle, Rylan Clark, Rochelle Humes, Joel Dommett, and the newly-minted mother Sian Welby, there was a frequent change in hosts.
She will be back on the This Morning couch alongside Ben on September 2nd. It’s been revealed that they often share beauty advice with each other.
Despite having co-hosted the ITV breakfast show for just five months, this duo has grown so close that they now even sport matching under-eye patches.
49-year-old Ben stated, “As I approach my 50th birthday, I’ve significantly improved my skincare routine. Plus, it’s really special that I can now share those under-eye patches with you, Cat.”
The speaker mentioned that he added the well-known treatment to his daily routine, specifically targeting it towards minimizing the swelling under his eyes, prior to appearing on camera.
cat mentioned casually: “We’re quite upfront about it! I put mine on during my drive here. You slip yours on once you arrive. And then, suddenly, we’re both 27.”
