This may be the best "pub crawl" in Walt Disney World and also the most fun!

As a seasoned traveler with countless trips to Disney World under my belt, I can confidently say that the Monorail Crawl is hands down the most delightful and underrated adventure one can embark on within the magical kingdom! Having navigated the labyrinthine streets of Europe and the bustling bars of America’s cities, I can attest to the uniqueness of this Disney-inspired pub crawl.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve stumbled upon an often overlooked pub crawl that’s hidden within the magical realm of Walt Disney World. Here’s a handy insider’s guide to this under-the-radar experience!

In many cities across Europe and the U.S., there’s a lively custom known as a “bar hop” or “tour of pubs.” This involves visiting multiple bars or pubs located closely together in a specific area, usually starting from one and moving on to the next. These tours often take place during festive occasions like Halloween or St. Patrick’s Day, but can also be themed around other events. They may include tasks such as ordering particular drinks and meals, and provide opportunities for enjoyable interactions among participants.

One popular bit works for rural areas connected by railroads, so the pub crawlers can see how many town bars they can work in a day via train rides. Which has a unique connection to Walt Disney World.

The Disney pub crawls

It’s hardly unexpected that Disney World has sparked several pub crawls; some are informal, while others receive full support from Disney, going so far as to sell merchandise for them. The Drink Around the World, arguably the most renowned, is an activity where participants aim to have a drink at every one of the eleven pavilions in the World Showcase. This becomes even more popular during the Food & Wine Festival, making it effortless to find a place for a drink.

You’ll find a bar area near the Boardwalk that’s also accessible from pubs located at the Yacht, Beach, Swan, and Dolphin resorts. The Skyliner provides another means of travel, although bars at the value resorts may not have as diverse a drink selection. Notably, Disney Springs offers an enjoyable bar-hopping experience with numerous dining choices.

However, when all is said and done, if a single pub crawl is essential for visitors, it’s the one that has been in existence since 1988: The Monorail Crawl.

A quick guide for the Monorail Crawl

The charm of Monorail Crawl lies in its convenience. Unlike exploring half of Epcot or vast expanses like Disney Springs that require hiking, this activity is accessible anytime, day or night. What makes it truly attractive is the fact that it shields you from the unpredictable Florida weather. Whether it’s raining cats and dogs outside, you can simply hop on the monorail to be dropped off at the covered entrances for the Contemporary, Polynesian, or Grand Floridian resorts, allowing you to easily visit your desired establishments without a hitch.

There’s also the fun experience of riding the monorail, especially at night. This can be timed to coincide with the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom and getting the right seat for them with a good drink is nice.

So, which spots should be hit for this Crawl?

Contemporary

Established in 1971, the California Grill Lounge has consistently been a top dining spot at the resort, known for its excellent meals. No reservations are required, and their extensive beer and wine list, as well as a variety of teas for non-drinkers, make it a popular choice. The potential drawbacks include its relatively high cost and dress code, but with its stunning view, it’s definitely worth considering.

Additionally, there’s the less popular yet charming Outer Rim area, known for its unique drinks such as “Walk the Plank” (a blend of bourbon, almond syrup, lemon and orange juices) and the enchanting Magical Star Cocktail. For those who prefer simpler options, they can opt for regular beers and bourbons instead.

If you’re looking for a place that serves both drinks and food, Steakhouse 71 might be the perfect choice for you. Not only do they offer unique drinks like the Curious Cold Brew (a blend of bourbon, cold brew coffee, and vanilla ice cream) or the French 71, but their menu also boasts an array of delicious steaks, burgers, salads, and appetizers such as chicken wings. It’s ideal for starting off your day with a filling meal, and it can attract quite a lively crowd, making it a fun spot to visit.

Polynesian

In this monorail journey, most prefer taking a clockwise route as it leads to the Polynesian resort next. For those seeking a pub experience, they veer right towards Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto – a tiki bar like no other. The decor is stunning, the ambiance is consistently lively, and the creative drink names are charming: The HippopotoMai-Tai, Polynesian Pear, Uh-Oa, Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum, and more.

For an exciting ambiance, it’s recommended to go there during the night. You can also enjoy a crawl that includes various spots within the resort like Tambu Lounge, Kona Café, and Oasis Bar & Grill. The tropical vibe of this place makes every visit enjoyable, regardless of the time you choose to come.

Grand Floridian

At a higher class than most other resorts, the Grand Floridian exudes a more refined atmosphere while still maintaining an alluring charm. This is especially true for the Enchanted Rose, a bar inspired by “Beauty and the Beast”, offering cocktails that blend classic styles with enchanting elements such as the Floral Bitter Beauty and a variety of beer and cider concoctions.

If you’d rather bypass that topic, consider visiting Citricos Lounge instead. It offers a fancier ambiance, yet has an appealing kids’ menu and non-alcoholic cocktails with a variety of specialties, along with wines and other beverages. Keep in mind that it’s slightly pricier, so it might not suit those on a tight budget, but it’s an excellent place for drinks and meals nonetheless.

Instead of the usual pub crawls in WDW being entertaining, the unique experience provided by the monorail sets it apart from other places, making Disney World’s lounges even more appealing!
