This London-set “unmissable psychological thriller” from BBC’s The Tourist team will be a “gripping” watch
An upcoming psychological thriller, set in London, is being developed by the creators of BBC’s “The Tourist.” This intriguing series is expected to offer a captivating viewing experience.
Channel 4’s series titled “Maya” revolves around a mother-daughter duo finding refuge in the witness protection program, as they confront a significant danger. This show was previously announced.
The six-episode series is being hyped up as an “irresistible psychological mystery,” promising “engrossing acting and a humorous yet ominous, moody ambiance.
What to Read Next
Daisy Haggard, the talented writer-creator of “Maya”, is well known for her work on the critically-acclaimed comedy-drama series “Back to Life” and for her role in the show “Breeders” with Martin Freeman.
She expressed her enthusiasm earlier by saying, “I’m thrilled we can now unveil Maya to the world!” Previously conceived over a long period in her mind, she feels incredibly lucky to bring these types of narratives into focus. She can hardly contain her excitement to embark on this adventure alongside the daring and innovative Channel 4.
Haggard will co-produce the program in collaboration with Harry and Jack Williams (known for “The Missing”), Sarah Hammond (“The Tourist”), Alex Mercer (“High Potential”) and Daisy Mount (“The Assassin”). The production is being handled by Two Brothers Pictures, a company that has previously produced successful series like “The Tourist”, “Fleabag”, “Boat Story” and “Baptiste”.
Two Brothers Pictures’ Hammond stated, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Daisy once more! She has our utmost admiration here at Two Brothers, and Maya demonstrates her signature talent for creating captivating characters and authentic, heartfelt narratives. We are deeply appreciative of Channel 4 for trusting us to share this tale; we can hardly wait to share it with viewers.
According to Ollie Madden, Director of Film4 and Channel 4 Drama, Daisy’s pilot script for the show Maya made us burst out laughing due to its humorous portrayal of British parenting and the peculiarities of witness protection programs. At the same time, it kept us on the edge of our seats with its intense and unapologetic approach to thriller storytelling.
As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled beyond words about Daisy and the exceptional crew at Two Brothers. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the breathtaking series they’re crafting take shape under their expert guidance.
What is Maya about?
I, being an ardent follower of their story, find myself trailing after the dynamic duo – Anna and her teenage daughter. They’ve bid adieu to their bustling London life, compelled by circumstances to assume fresh personas and settle in a quaint, rural locale.
In an attempt to cope with their fresh circumstances, their haunting past trauma lingers and the ominous presence of two assassins instills a persistent sense of disquiet as they scour for the lost mother and child. As the pressure mounts around them, it becomes evident that the menacing character from their history remains an impending danger.
The show additionally guarantees a touch of “warmth” and “amusement,” contrasting with its heavier themes. It delves into the “indestructible connection” shared by a mother and her daughter.
Maya delves into themes of personal identity, harmful masculine actions, and just how far a parent might be driven to safeguard their offspring, it hints.
In their journey through this unfamiliar realm, a query persists: Will the system ensure their well-being? Can they find lasting security, or will they need to resort to unconventional measures to shield themselves?
Who is in Maya?
Haggard has been cast as Anna, but it remains undisclosed who else will join the cast. Channel 4 hints that more famous faces will be revealed shortly.
When will Maya be released?
I’m excitedly waiting for the release of “Maya”, but as of now, the exact launch date hasn’t been revealed just yet. When it does finally make its debut, I’ll definitely be tuning in to watch it on Channel 4, whether that’s on TV or streaming online!
Maya will air and stream on Channel 4.
