The beginning of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is famous for its opening scene. Cate Blanchett, playing Galadriel, explains how the evil Sauron created more than a dozen rings, eventually leading to the making of one particularly powerful ring.
In Prime Video’s The Rings of Power, Sauron began appearing openly and trying to take control of the magical rings. However, a young Galadriel, portrayed by Morfydd Clark, prevented him from collecting them all.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer for the new season of the fantasy series! It’s now official – a key event fans have anticipated since the beginning, the creation of The One, will happen this season.
According to co-showrunner Patrick McKay, the current season depicts Sauron forging the One Ring within the volcano. The latest issue of Empire Magazine features a new image of actor Charlie Vickers portraying Sauron seated on his throne.
JD Payne, the other showrunner, told me they’ve really upped the ante with the villains this season – it’s a much bigger threat than we’ve seen before. He says Season 3 is way darker and more dangerous, and honestly, he made it sound like anyone could be in trouble! It’s got me seriously worried (and excited) for what’s coming.

Vickers described the scene as incredibly powerful. It was a long and complex shot to film, but more importantly, it’s a really iconic moment from the story. For many who discovered Tolkien’s world through Peter Jackson’s movies, this is one of the first things they remember experiencing.
He remembered being overwhelmed with emotion on his first day on set. He felt incredibly lucky and honored to be part of telling that particular story. Filming the complex sequence, known as ‘The Ring,’ took two weeks due to its length.
Wow, apparently this latest sequence was seriously intense! I heard from McKay that it was the most ambitious and technically difficult thing they’ve ever pulled off on the show. And he was blown away by Vickers’ performance, calling it absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to see it!
The first two seasons focused on establishing the show’s setting and characters. However, we were also subtly introducing storylines and hints of future conflicts. Now, in the third season, those storylines are finally coming to a head and major events are unfolding.
Okay, so anyone who’s a fan of the books or movies thinks they know how the Last Alliance played out, but it looks like The Rings of Power is going to throw some surprises into the mix. I’m really curious to see what they change!
