This Is Spinal Tap icon David Kaff dead at 79… just months before legendary film’s sequel release
A legendary actor and musician who starred in This Is Spinal Tap has died aged 79.
David Kaff, known for portraying keyboardist Viv Savage in the legendary 1984 movie, passed away tranquilly in his sleep on July 11, as confirmed by a statement issued by his band Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom.
It read: ‘Our brother David Kaffinetti passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday.
‘We are devastated by this event.
As a devoted admirer, I can attest that David’s gentle words and sharp humor were truly captivating. They could leave you in stitches, yet his laughter was always infectious and brought a smile to your face.
‘RIP dear brother.

In 1984, the comedy film “This Is Spinal Tap” made its debut, featuring actors Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer in the lead roles.
Under the direction of Rob Reiner, this mockumentary comedy traced the journey of the heavy metal band, Spinal Tap, known as one of England’s most raucous groups, during their American tour.
Kaff’s death comes just two months before a sequel to his iconic film will be released.
In September, we’ll see the continuation of “Spinal Tap II”: The Final Act. This sequel picks up where the original left off, following the band as they take the stage once more, having reunited after a 15-year hiatus.

This Is Spinal Tap has a whopping 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes and has been praised by many.


In 2002, this film was selected for conservation by the National Film Registry, as the Library of Congress deemed it to be of great cultural, historical, and artistic importance.
Some enthusiasts have shared their eagerness for the upcoming launch on social media, with one exclaiming on X: ‘Is it true they’re creating a Spinal Tap 2?!?’

Kaff, originally named David Kaffinetti, was one of the original members of the British progressive rock group Rare Bird, serving from 1969 to 1975. The band became well-known for their hit song “Sympathy” from 1969.
