This is not a drill: Hextech Chests are coming back to League of Legends!

Riot Games revealed in their latest developer’s briefing that they will be reintroducing Hextech Chests following strong player dissent over their initial removal.

Indeed, you’re correctly informed! The highly anticipated Hextech Chests are making a comeback in the game! Riot Games announced its departure at the end of 2024, which sparked discontent among players due to other decisions made since the start of the season. A significant number of gamers and fans even started an online campaign advocating for the return of Hextech Chests, along with more Blue Essence, improved skin quality, and various other demands. As we move forward into the next Act, let’s see how these changes unfold.

Hextech Chests return

It seems evident that for numerous players, Hextech Chests served as more than just a means of acquiring items; they were integral to making your League experience satisfying. Unfortunately, we underestimated how crucial this aspect was for you, which resulted in adjustments that fell short. Now, Riot Games is planning to reintroduce the Hextech Chests back into the game.

Beginning from update 25.05, scheduled for release on March 5th, you stand a chance to accumulate up to 10 Hextech Chests and their corresponding keys per Act. The Battle Pass will undergo modifications, granting you eight Hextech Chests as a free reward. In light of the unfavorable reception towards seasonal skins, they have opted to swap out these seasonal skins and mystery epic or lower-tier skins with Hextech Chests instead.

Riot Games plans to tailor the Battle Pass system to suit different playstyles. Regardless if you prefer modes with random champion selection or have freedom to choose, or whether you focus on a few champions or many, they aim to accommodate your preferences. Additionally, similar to how Honor granted capsules and orbs in the past, two Hextech Chests will be obtainable by completing missions. Since the Honor System is undergoing modifications, these chests will temporarily be accessible before the system’s updates are complete.

More changes to come?

Currently, Riot Games finds itself in a challenging situation due to several contentious choices. The gaming community has gone as far as initiating a petition calling for the immediate resignation of CEO Dylan Jadeja. At the time this article was written, the petition had garnered over 29,000 signatures, surpassing its initial goal of 25,000. The organizers claim that Riot Games has been focusing too heavily on maximizing profits at the expense of the player experience.
