This December, one of the top horror comedies of the year is set to premiere on streaming platform Max. The movie in question has generated a lot of anticipation as it’s been over 30 years since its prequel was released. Can you guess which film I’m referring to? Indeed, it’s the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” from 1988, titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“. Max has scheduled its streaming debut for Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. I had the pleasure of watching “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” in the cinema, and it was so hilarious that I’m eagerly anticipating a second viewing when it’s available on Max. Typically, sequels can disappoint, especially ones delayed for long periods. However, this isn’t true for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”. Remarkably, the movie skillfully rekindled the essence of the original while making its narrative relevant to modern audiences.

In the sequel, Burton once again took the director’s chair, with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (known for ‘Wednesday’) writing the script. Fans of the ‘Beetlejuice’ series were thrilled to see some familiar characters from the original movie return in this follow-up, including Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, and Michael Keaton as the iconic Beetlejuice. Joining the cast is Jenna Ortega, who plays Lydia’s teenage daughter, Astrid Deetz. In addition to Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and several others, make up the talented ensemble of actors in this film.

In the years following the initial events, we find ourselves with Lydia Deetz, now an adult and host of a popular supernatural talk show titled “Ghost House.” Following news of her father’s demise from her stepmother Delia, she returns to Winter River along with her distant daughter Astrid for his funeral and to deal with their ancestral home. However, chaos ensues upon their arrival as Astrid accidentally opens a gateway to the afterlife and is lured into it by some deceptive forces.

“How can she save Astrid from the land of the dead? She might summon the tricky spirit, Beetlejuice. However, his arrival tends to create more problems than solutions!
