This Forgotten 2025 Thriller Stars the Perfect Batman for James Gunn’s DC Era

Choosing the actor to play Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe will inevitably please some fans while upsetting many others. Unlike Superman, who is generally seen as either a mild-mannered reporter or a heroic figure, Batman – and the persona of Bruce Wayne – is a much more complex character with many different interpretations.

With so many different versions of Batman appearing in comics and other media, it’s still unclear which one the DC Universe’s Batman will be based on. However, Brandon Sklenar’s performance in The Housemaid makes it clear why he’s been a popular choice among fans hoping he’d get the role, and anyone questioning his acting ability should definitely check it out.

Brandon Sklenar’s Housemaid Performance is Great

Brandon Sklenar has the build that many Batman fans wanted to see from Robert Pattinson in The Batman, and his role in The Housemaid shows he can convincingly portray intense, unpredictable anger – a quality that would fit well with certain versions of Batman, like the quirky, withdrawn Bruce Wayne played by Michael Keaton.

As a huge movie fan, I’ve been thinking about James Gunn’s plans for Batman, and it’s true – if they’re going for that campy, Adam West vibe, it’s hard to picture Brandon Sklenar pulling that off based on what I’ve seen so far. But then I watched The Housemaid, and wow! It totally showed me a side of him I didn’t know existed. We’ve seen him play the strong, stoic hero in 1923, but The Housemaid proved he can also go completely off the rails – and that kind of unpredictable duality is exactly what makes Batman so compelling in a lot of the classic interpretations.

It Might as Well Be a DCU Batman Audition

Just because fans want an actor in a role doesn’t mean it will happen, but fan preferences and an actor’s popularity do influence casting decisions. Essentially, a ‘fancast’ is simply how well an actor looks like a character and how convincingly fans believe they could play the part.

While Robert Pattinson had already proven himself as a talented actor before landing the role of Batman, many still primarily remembered him for his part as Edward Cullen in the Twilight films. This isn’t the case with Brandon Sklenar, as most viewers probably only know him from his recent roles in projects like 1923, It Ends with Us, Drop, or The Housemaid – all within the last four years.

Robert Pattinson is undeniably good-looking and has a strong jawline, but his portrayal of Bruce Wayne is a surprisingly unconventional look for the character. Interestingly, Brandon Sklenar already embodies the appearance of a rancher, but with a clean shave and darker hair – similar to the changes Pattinson underwent – he could easily pass as a wealthy, sophisticated playboy.

I’ve been seeing Paul Anthony Kelly, who was in Love Story, mentioned a lot as a potential Bruce Wayne – he’s a new face people are really excited about! And Lee Pace from Foundation… wow, I think he’d be an amazing, seasoned Batman, maybe one who already has a whole team of heroes working with him. Honestly, all these specific suggestions really show just how huge this casting decision is for James Gunn and the new DCU. It’s going to be almost impossible to pick someone who everyone agrees with, no matter who it is or why they’re chosen.
