This DCU Batman Fancast is So Good, It’ll Be Weird if It Doesn’t Happen

James Gunn is building a strong cinematic universe for DC with shows like Creature Commandos and season two of Peacemaker, plus the upcoming Superman movie. Other projects in development include Supergirl directed by Craig Gillespie, the HBO series Lanterns, and Clayface from James Watkins. However, plans for a new Batman movie are moving cautiously, and there’s no news yet on who will play the character.

It seems we may already know who will play Batman in the new DC Universe. Brandon Sklenar is currently the most talked-about choice among fans, and many believe he’s the leading candidate, or even a certainty. If he doesn’t get the role, all the recent attention he’s received will have been for nothing.

Brandon Sklenar is Too Hyped Up Not to Get the Role

Brandon Sklenar, who is in his mid-30s and has a conventionally attractive, muscular build, physically resembles Bruce Wayne/Batman. However, taking on the role would require him to shave, wear a costume, and adapt to whatever version of Batman is planned for the DC Universe. Given that Matt Reeves’ Batman films are very dark and pessimistic, it wouldn’t be unexpected if Andy Muschietti’s upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold, features a more cheerful, traditionally blue and grey suited Batman.

Brandon Sklenar has repeatedly supported fan casting him as Batman in interviews, suggesting he feels good about his chances. While other actors like Lee Pace and Jonathan Bailey have also been asked about it, Sklenar’s potential casting has generated far more discussion among fans since the start of the new DC Universe era.

DCU’s Superman was Merely an Amuse-Bouche

As a huge DC fan, I’m still in the dark about when we’ll finally see who James Gunn has chosen to play Batman in the new DCU. Honestly, it’s frustrating! But I’m keeping my fingers crossed we might get a quick peek – maybe even just a cameo – in something like Man of Tomorrow a couple of years from now. There’s also talk of a Clayface movie being written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, and that could be another opportunity to see him pop up. It’s all speculation at this point, but a guy can dream, right?

James Gunn has indicated he wants to avoid rushing out new Batman movies and TV shows, so we likely won’t hear about who’s playing Batman in the future until after The Batman: Part 2 comes out on October 1, 2027. However, given all the excitement around Brandon Sklenar, it would be very surprising if he wasn’t chosen for the role.
