Over the last twenty years, few kids’ movie series have been as consistently popular as *Despicable Me*. Starring Steve Carrell, the franchise continues to do well, largely thanks to the beloved, little yellow Minions who have become a huge part of pop culture. Despite what critics say, the movies remain popular with audiences and make a lot of money, although one recent video shows that not every child is a fan of the Minions.
Young children are known for their surprising reactions, and that’s why videos of them often go viral on TikTok. This mom definitely didn’t expect her daughter’s strong reaction when she playfully presented a ‘Minion’ at their door!

I was really entertained by this Minion video – it’s been a while since I enjoyed one as much as the original *Despicable Me* when I first watched it on Netflix. From what I’ve read in the comments, many viewers were shocked by a scene showing a child hitting another child who was dressed in a Halloween costume.

I recently rewatched the original *Despicable Me* and feel like the sequels haven’t lived up to its quality. The franchise seems to have suffered from trying to capitalize on its initial success.
I’m really curious about what the child was thinking when they punched the Minion. My guess is they probably realized it wasn’t a real character – maybe they could see the person inside the costume. It’s clear not all kids believe in fictional characters, and my own daughter definitely proved that when she waited an hour to meet Minnie Mouse at Disney World, then immediately knew it wasn’t the ‘real’ Minnie!
I really like the idea of this child recalling all the mischief Minions cause and reacting by playfully hitting it. They create so much chaos for Gru and everyone around them, it’s easy to see how seeing a real-looking Minion could be frightening. If she genuinely believed she saw a live one, I’d say her reaction was actually quite mild.
Beyond that, it’s wonderful to see that kids still love dressing up as characters from *Despicable Me*, even though the first movie came out over ten years ago. Actually, the original fans are now growing up, so I wouldn’t be surprised if *Despicable Me* got its own attraction at Halloween Horror Nights someday. This year’s events included attractions that were more about impressive visuals than being truly scary, like the *Five Nights at Freddy’s* attraction, which is also popular with younger kids. Because of this, I think it’s quite possible we’ll see Minions featured in some way in the future.
Leaving aside the movie *Despicable Me*, I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s Halloween costumes this year. I’ve already noticed *KPop Demon Hunters* are going to be popular, but I suspect we’ll also see plenty of Minions!
