Actor James Nelson-Joyce expressed his desire to become the first Liverpool native to play James Bond, as he shared this aspiration on a recent football podcast by The Mail.
In a talk show titled “Speaking to Whistleblowers,” hosted by Gordon Smart and featuring Mark Clattenburg and Ian Ladyman, Nelson-Joyce, aged 36, openly admitted that he isn’t like those charismatic individuals who feign modesty when expressing their desire for the prestigious position.
Daniel Craig has concluded his tenure as James Bond following five films, with his last portrayal of the character seen in 2021’s No Time to Die.
It’s been reported that Amazon now holds the rights for the production of the upcoming Bond movie, and several promising young British talents are said to be discussing the possibility of replacing Daniel Craig in the role.
‘Anyone would want to play James Bond’, James told the new podcast.
As a die-hard fan, I’m not just one of those casual actors who nonchalantly say, “I don’t know.” When it comes to James Bond, the opportunity is beyond desire – it’s the ultimate dream. It’s not just about acting; it’s stepping into a legendary role that represents the epitome of cool and sophistication. It’s a chance to be part of something iconic, something that transcends the boundaries of cinema and becomes a cultural phenomenon. That next level is what draws me in – the thought of embodying Bond is not just an acting challenge, but a testament to the power and allure of the character itself.
James, hailing from Liverpool, has made a name for himself by portraying sinister roles on widely-watched TV series such as The Nest and Time.
He has just appeared in a fresh crime series titled “This City Is Ours,” focusing on the intense rivalries between various criminal factions set against the backdrop of Liverpool.

James worked with Stephen Graham in the series and recently praised his fellow Liverpudlian cast mate for launching his acting career.)
From an unexpected candidate, hailing with Liverpool pride, there’s talk of stepping into the Bond role following the hit BBC series.
Co-host Gordon Smart asked the actor whether he would bring a ‘Merseyside twang’ to the part.
‘That’s exactly what I would do, yeah’, James replied.
He playfully delivered some of Bond’s well-known phrases, adopting a robust Liverpool accent, during the Mail podcast.
The bookies give James a 6/1 chance to star in the next Bond film, speculated to release in 2026.
James shared that his ideal acting role would be portraying the legendary Manchester United figure, George Best, in a movie about his life story.

Inquired as to the reason, James responded: “I’m utterly football-obsessed – and he was a phenomenal athlete on the field. Yet, his legendary status extended beyond it; he might just be the first famous footballer, a true celebrity.
He was a solitary figure, garnering attention from beauty pageant winners, yet lacking genuine connection. People were eager to share a drink with him, but few displayed true concern for his well-being.
‘There’s an incredible story somewhere in there – if you found the right writer.’
