‘Thighs Will Be Squeezed.’ SNL Dropped A Hilarious Fake Hunting Wives Trailer With Aubrey Plaza

The latest season of *Saturday Night Live* (Season 51) has begun, and the first episode featured a return by former cast member Amy Poehler as host. The episode celebrated the show’s 50th anniversary, and included a special moment with Poehler back at the Weekend Update desk alongside Seth Meyers and Tina Fey. Aubrey Plaza also made a memorable appearance in a funny fake trailer for a show called *Hunting Wives*.

Saturday Night Live has parodied many TV shows, including *The White Lotus* (which received criticism from its star, Aimee Lou Wood). Even before the second season of *The Hunting Wives* was officially announced, SNL quickly created a spoof based on the first trailer for the new season – a show jokingly described as a scandalous drama about conservative, attractive women. The sketch featured over-the-top scenes, like a threesome with teenagers and drinking alcohol while pregnant. The trailer then introduced Aubrey Plaza’s character as a newcomer from California.

In one scene, Amy Poehler’s character invites Aubrey Plaza’s to join in making mimosas. Plaza confesses she’s never made them before, leading to a chaotic lesson from Poehler, Chloe Fineman, Sarah Sherman, and Ashley Padilla. Shortly after Plaza casually mentions she has a girlfriend, everyone dramatically reacts with hostility, pointing guns at her. The trailer highlights a clear, and amusingly ironic, contrast: despite the obvious chemistry between the women, it’s Plaza’s relationship that sets them off.

As a longtime fan, I wasn’t at all surprised to see Aubrey Plaza pop up on *Saturday Night Live* when Amy Poehler was hosting – it was a sweet return of a favor, considering Poehler did the same for Plaza! The real treat, though, came during Plaza’s recent hosting gig in 2023. She brought back her iconic *Parks and Recreation* character, April Ludgate, for *Weekend Update*, and the audience absolutely lost it when Amy Poehler showed up as Leslie Knope. It’s genuinely heartwarming to see that, even a decade after *Parks and Rec* wrapped, these two are still clearly close friends.

I’ve been really enjoying the new season of SNL so far, even with all the changes to the cast! The first two episodes have been surprisingly funny. Last week was great with Amy Poehler hosting and Role Model performing – he even brought out Charli XCX during his song, “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.” I’m already looking forward to next week because Sabrina Carpenter is going to be both the host *and* the musical guest, which I think will be awesome!

I really enjoyed seeing Aubrey Plaza on the show this week, and I’d love to see her host SNL again this season. It would be great if she got another chance to do it.
