They thought she was gone... Now residents of Sydney's most exclusive millionaires' row are bracing for the return of a notorious expat socialite - and she has her eyes on some very expensive real estate

As I delve into the tumultuous life of Roxy Jacenko, Australia’s self-proclaimed “Queen of PR,” I can’t help but be captivated by her unyielding spirit and relentless drive. This woman has faced adversity time and again, yet she rises, phoenix-like, from the ashes of scandal and controversy.

She was once the jewel in the crown of Sydney’s social scene.

In her spare time away from attending parties under the glare of paparazzi cameras, she managed local public relations efforts for several renowned global brands.

Then she shocked Australia with two words no one saw coming: ‘I’m retiring.’

In 2022, Roxy Jacenko decided to shutter her Paddington-based public relations company, Sweaty Betty PR, and relinquished her position as its director. At 44 years old, she brought an end to a two-decade run in her professional career.

Her next chapter? Singapore.

In the city where they reside, her partner, Oliver Curtis, achieved prosperity by managing a technology startup that utilized artificial intelligence following the conclusion of his banking career in Sydney due to an insider trading penalty.

After realizing the substantial income coming her way, Roxy chose to depart from the fiercely competitive realm of beauty and lifestyle public relations to embark on a journey with Oliver, exploring the exciting frontier of artificial intelligence.

Setting out on an adventure, my popular-on-Instagram kids, Pixie, aged 13, and Hunter, 10, by my side, I journeyed towards the renowned city known as The Lion City.

With approximately $25 million at their disposal, she and Oliver purchased an extravagant residence on the affluent street known as Sentosa Cove, among other wealthy individuals.

For the Jacenko-Curtises, it appeared as if they were destined for a lifetime of bliss, despite having faced challenges such as public judgment, imprisonment, and Roxy’s relationship with her former boyfriend, Nabil Gazal, during a period when Oliver was incarcerated.

Initially, Roxy appreciated the privacy Singapore provided following her long history of being a target for paparazzi and tabloids in Sydney.

However, the thrill of being yet another affluent expatriate appears to have faded for the self-made entrepreneur, Roxy. Yearning for her former life in the Emerald City, she’s now preparing the foundation for her return.

After revealing intentions to revive Sweaty Betty upon returning from a 13-month stay abroad, our recent images suggest she’s considering purchasing a residence that matches her high-end living preferences as a family home.

On a Monday, we captured images of the renowned PR expert at an intimate showing of a 20 million dollar estate located in the upscale neighborhood of Vaucluse, which is known for its high-end real estate, marking the beginning of her property search.

With the third look, the grand estate appears increasingly likely to be Roxy’s future ideal residence. Reports indicate that she is eager to leave behind her short-term dwelling in Double Bay and embark on a new chapter.

Roxy chose an eye-catching ensemble for the occasion, donning a coordinated pink knit set from Chanel that consisted of a mini skirt and heart-embellished T-shirt. She accessorized this stylish look with nude slingback sandals, a high-end watch, and a collection of silver jewelry, adding up to approximately $16,000 in cost.

Plus her ubiquitous iPhone, always seen in hand and never tucked away in a purse.

Roxy frequently travels to Australia every two weeks for the revival of her regional PR job, and should she decide to move into the roomy six-bedroom ‘home haven’, she’s likely to establish Sydney as her long-term residence.

For Oliver’s growing profession in Singapore, it’s hard to predict what will happen, but due to the work-from-home (WFH) revolution, he might as well keep managing his AI business from a home office, or even by the poolside.

Nestled on approximately 1,041 square meters of land, this spacious four-bathroom house boasts a secluded and serene setting, as it is set back from the street and enjoys north-facing vistas. The enthusiastic real estate description refers to its ambiance as reminiscent of a peaceful retreat.

This two-story property boasts a spacious, combined kitchen ideal for gourmet cooking, complete with a Carrara marble counter island and built-in breakfast bar. The kitchen seamlessly flows into a sizable living space, enriched by a ceiling-mounted surround-sound system.

In the house designed by Virginia Kerridge, you’ll find expansive dining and family spaces on opposite sides, both sharing proximity with a striking sandstone fireplace as their central feature.

In five rooms, there are already integrated closets, and the master suite offers additional opulence through a spacious walk-in closet and private bathroom connected to it.

Luxurious extras encompass a heated pool nestled among sandstone, various alfresco recreation spots, a spacious double garage with storage, and a wine cellar. Additionally, there’s a versatile studio area that can function as a home office.

The property was last sold for $15million in 2022 and is now on the market for $20million.

If Roxy selects Vaucluse as her permanent residence (which seems probable considering she sold a mansion there for $16 million in May of the previous year), it might spark some conversation among the affluent residents in the area.

Initially, wherever Roxy travels, photographers seem to tag along. Consequently, residents who often prioritize privacy might need to adapt to the presence of paparazzi lurking among the well-groomed foliage.

Yes, the neighbourhood may already be home to the likes of Kyle Sandilands, Scott Cam and bar tsar Justin Hemmes, but even these A-listers don’t command the same kind of round-the-clock media fascination as Roxy.

Additionally, while spending a year overseas, Roxy generated quite a buzz in the eastern suburbs by being the public figure for a controversial $10 million “home raffle.

The public event where prizes were given away unfortunately failed spectacularly, leaving her with no choice but to reimburse numerous participants from her personal funds.

It’s uncertain if the publicist plans to maintain a dual residence in both Australia (Sydney) and Singapore, or if they are considering relocating permanently and selling their assets in Asia, along with her partner Oliver.

Although Roxy openly admits that she finds Singapore dull, there’s no denying her meticulous care for her Sentosa Island home, as evidenced by the $15,000 she spent on Christmas decorations for it not long ago.

Following Oliver’s successful transformation of his initial $250,000 investment in Firmus Technologies, Singapore, into an enormous wealth nearly equal to $447 million, she decided to move to Singapore to assist him with managing the business.

Initially, everything was going splendidly. Roxy expressed her joy about being able to leave her house without accidentally running into another influencer or high-society figure.

She once shared with the Sydney Morning Herald that it’s a refreshing change because nobody there knows her, holds any prior assumptions about her identity or expectations, and what’s even more delightful is that no one really seems to care who she is!

In Singapore, it was like nobody knew who Roxy, which I found quite refreshing and a little freeing.

After some time had passed, she began expressing dissatisfaction about the area being dull, and surprisingly, not even Singapore’s renowned shopping hub could hold Roxy’s attention, given her substantial financial resources.

She expressed to The Sunday Telegraph that there’s absolutely no entertainment or activities in this place; it’s as if there’s nothing here at all. Household chores aren’t my cup of tea… I’ve shopped so much that I can’t even think about shopping anymore.

I have more time left in the day than I know what to do with, since stores like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Prada are only open for a limited number of hours.

Though most daydream of retiring, Roxy controversially said she would rather juggle running six businesses than being a housewife and a stay-at-home mother – or as she eloquently put it, ‘F**k me that would have to be the hardest job’.

After abandoning her carefree lifestyle filled with shopping sprees and fancy lunches, Roxy has decided to immerse herself once more in the bustling Sydney Public Relations scene, aiming to regain her former prominence.

‘I’ve always worked – I know no different – so getting back into it was inevitable,’ Roxy tells me.

Instead of retiring, I gave it a shot, but found myself feeling restless! As an entrepreneur at heart, the idea of staying at home, playing tennis, and indulging in lengthy meals didn’t appeal to me for long!

Twice monthly, I make the trip back to Sydney. Despite the fact that it’s seven hours away and only has a three-hour time difference, it’s incredibly convenient for me. It’s also a pleasure to catch up with my mom Doreen and friends, as well as being in an office setting again.

But reentering the business world won’t be without its challenges.

Based on her latest social media updates, it appears that the world of advertising might have changed a bit from her time at Sweaty Betty, as luxury brands, grand events, and high-profile parties may not be as prevalent now.

Recently, I’ve been advocating for electric bikes as a viable solution to the commuting conundrum Sydney is currently facing due to labor disputes. Surprisingly, I’m championing the high-tech $5,699 bicycles from Flight Risk, suggesting them as a practical alternative to hopping on a bus.

Since Roxy last rode a train in 1998, she viewed the prospect of a rail strike as a public relations chance for the company she represented.

However, a swift public relations victory might not be enough to erase the memory of the catastrophe that occurred merely a few months back. The unfortunate incident involving Roxy’s unsuccessful $10 million house lottery has left her in a bind, needing to compensate disgruntled entrants from her own resources.

The highly anticipated giveaway of her Brand Bootcamp online course, intended to be an unforgettable event, unfortunately ended up as a disappointing flop due to insufficient earnings, which prevented the distribution of the promised series of high-end prizes.

The prizes consisted of a $10 million waterfront house in Cronulla (belonging to her business associates Youssef Tleis and Kassim Alaouie), a Birkin handbag, and a Rolex watch; however, the competition had to be suspended as it didn’t meet its $11.5 million minimum requirement.

Mr. Tleis and Mr. Alaouie advocated for the promotion to continue offering a $250,000 cash reward, a handbag, and a watch. However, in the end, the entire event, including the giveaways, was unfortunately cancelled.

After parting ways from her business partnership with Mr. Tleis and Mr. Alaouie, Roxy reportedly reimbursed a total of $76,000 to participants who hadn’t received their due, using her personal funds.

She stated that she would honor her promise for refunds, leaving $684,000 of her personal money in her lawyer’s escrow account.

Subsequently, The Daily Telegraph reported that she disbursed approximately $76,019 as refunds to participants of the cancelled contest, which represented more than 10% of the funds she had declared for reimbursements.

Compared to the 7,489 individuals who enrolled in the boot camp by paying between $29 and $499, it was just a single drop in the vast ocean.

However, the story didn’t conclude there, as Roxy faced criticism over her rigid refund policy during the upheaval too.

Individuals who submitted a refund request between June 9 and June 15, a span of seven days, were the only ones qualified to receive any refund from her.

Following the criticism, Roxy chose to justify her business decision by posting on social media: ‘Now, I’m personally handling refunds from my own bank account.’

‘As you know, I entered into a partnership with two others, which was a dismal f**king failure.’

Here’s a possible way to rephrase the original statement in a more conversational tone:

She pointed out that when you purchase Nutri-Grain at Woolworths, it’s not appropriate to return or request a refund or exchange for the product after three months have passed.

‘It’s not uncommon to have a seven-day refund period, and I wasn’t obligated to do so. However, I decided to return the money to those who asked, using my personal funds.’

Following her personal payments for refunds, it appears that Supreme Court Justice Anthony McGrath denied Roxy’s petition for coverage of her legal expenses, dealing another setback.

In response to the worsening situation, the NSW Supreme Court subsequently appointed liquidators to the company following Roxy’s resignation as a director in May.

Roxy requested the temporary appointment of liquidators because, amongst other issues, there were accusations that Mr. Tleis and Mr. Alaouie behaved deceptively during their promotional activities.

The fine print in the promotion stipulated that rewards could only be distributed if the contest generated over 11.5 million dollars in earnings, yet Roxy never disclosed the specific terms and conditions.

Despite her familiarity with the chaos of public life, I couldn’t find a hint of that particular clause in the official rules and regulations of the competition posted on The Roxy’s Bootcamp website.

When Justice McGrath appointed Cathro & Partners as a temporary liquidator for the company, he labeled the promotional scheme as “very suspect” or “dubious.

‘The competing interlocutory applications arise in the extraordinary circumstances of the rapid creation and almost equally rapid deterioration in the relationships between Ms Jacenko, Mr Tleis and Mr Alaouie over a business venture involving the promoting of training courses offered by Ms Jacenko to the public using a highly questionable promotion scheme,’ he said.

Regardless of perspective, the offer has faced a great deal of negative attention from the public… Consequently, there’s been an abundance of critical comments made about the promotion and those associated with it on various online platforms.

Time will tell if stepping down and disassociating from the failing public relations project can restore her tarnished image in the ruthless, unyielding realm of PR.

But given her habit of emerging from scandals unscathed, we reckon she’ll survive.
