Disney+’s new show, Wonder Man, starts the year off strong for superhero fans on January 27th. The series will officially bring the character Simon Williams, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story follows an actor trying to land the role of Wonder Man, with a surprising twist – he actually gains superpowers! We’ll also see the return of Trevor Slattery, known from the Iron Man movies. The question is, who else might show up in this limited series?
The upcoming Wonder Man series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might feature characters we’ve seen before. These heroes and villains could have ties to Wonder Man, Simon Williams, and his story. Similar to the comics, characters like Vision could play a role. Others, such as Shang-Chi, who are also based in California, could become allies as the series unfolds.
The Runaways Could Finally Return
Despite being cancelled in 2019 after three seasons, fans are still hoping for a continuation of Marvel’s Runaways to resolve the remaining plot threads. Since Runaways was set in Los Angeles, and focused on a group of teens fighting their parents’ secret organization, the show’s location is relevant because Wonder Man will also take place in LA.
If Marvel Studios decides to revive the Runaways series, the Wonder Man show offers a great way to hint at their return. It would make sense for Simon Williams to encounter these now-grown teenagers, particularly as he learns to control his abilities. The Runaways themselves could become unique and valuable allies for the new Wonder Man.
Hawkeye Leads the West Coast Avengers
Okay, as a huge MCU fan, the first thing that really jumped out at me about the Wonder Man series is that it’s happening in Hollywood! That’s a big change – it looks like we’re leaving New York City behind, which means no more of our usual New York-based heroes running around. But honestly? I’m excited! Knowing the comics, this feels like a huge hint that we’re finally going to see the West Coast Avengers come into play. I’ve been waiting for this for ages!
The upcoming Wonder Man series could pave the way for the West Coast Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If that happens, it’s likely we’ll see Hawkeye – either Clint Barton or Kate Bishop – involved, as they’re key members of the team and popular with fans. Given that Simon Williams (Wonder Man) is located in California, he’s a strong candidate to be one of the first members of this new Avengers lineup.
Sam Wilson May Try to Recruit Wonder Man
When we last saw Captain America, he was stepping up as the leader of a new Avengers team, but hadn’t yet recruited any members before the big fight against threats from across the multiverse. Now, with Wonder Man gaining attention for his amazing powers, Captain America might head to Hollywood to ask him to join the team, potentially leading to Wonder Man appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie.
Wonder Man has been a key member of several Avengers teams in the comics, and his powerful abilities have often been crucial to their success. It’s possible this will be the case in the upcoming Multiverse Saga as well. There’s a chance Captain America might appear briefly near the end, encouraging Wonder Man to fully embrace the role of a superhero.
Scarlet Witch & Simon Williams Share A Complex Love Story
Scarlet Witch and Simon Williams have a complex history, making it likely she’ll be involved in his new MCU series. With rumors swirling about Wanda appearing in future Avengers movies like Doomsday and Secret Wars, many fans believe Wonder Man will lay the groundwork for her return.
In the Marvel comics, Wonder Man’s brain was used to create the Vision, and he later became involved in a romantic rivalry with both Vision and Wanda. Although this storyline isn’t present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the remaining aspects of Wanda’s character could lead her to a connection with the actor who portrays Wonder Man, potentially starting a new romance as her powers become increasingly important towards the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
She-Hulk Could Help Simon
When we last saw She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters), she was finding happiness and accepting both sides of her life – being a lawyer and a superhero. The final scene showed things hadn’t changed much for her, suggesting she’s probably still working as a lawyer in Los Angeles.
Simon is starting to become a problem, as hinted at in the trailer, and will likely need a lawyer. Jennifer Walters seems like the perfect person to help him, especially as he learns to control his newfound abilities. Since Jennifer works in Los Angeles and Simon is pursuing a career in Hollywood, they’re geographically close, and she’d probably be willing to assist him if she knew what he was going through.
Xu Wenwu May Have Met Slattery
The upcoming series Wonder Man will feature Simon Williams and also bring back Trevor Slattery, the actor who impersonated the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. Slattery, now retired, will team up with Wonder Man as they navigate the challenges of Hollywood. However, given his history, fans shouldn’t fully trust him – he likely has his own hidden motives, possibly related to his role as a villain in the Iron Man story.
Trevor Slattery pretended to be the Mandarin for quite a while, making it seem unlikely he wasn’t aware of Wenwu’s real identity. Even though Shang-Chi’s father is deceased, a flashback scene could bring the two actors who played the Mandarin together on screen. Many fans would enjoy this moment, as Wenwu is a well-known villain from the comics who didn’t have a lot of focus in the main story.
Vision Was Modeled After Wonder Man In The Comics
The Vision we see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an advanced version of J.A.R.V.I.S., but in the comics, Vision was originally built using parts of other heroes – his mind, for instance, is based on the hero Simon Williams. Because of this difference, fans are speculating whether the two Visions will ever cross paths. With a Vision series planned, the upcoming Wonder Man show might be what finally leads to a Vision Quest storyline.
Viewers expect Vision’s series to focus on his difficulties with his past memories. A key part of his journey could be his friendship with Simon, especially if Wonder Man provides him with a new brain pattern. This new beginning would allow the show to more closely follow the character’s comic book origins, which is what Vision needs at this point in his story.
Shang-Chi & Wonder Man Would Be A Powerful Duo
It’s been a while since Shang-Chi first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021, and fans are excited to see what happens with him next. The upcoming series Wonder Man might be where he reappears. While a lot of the MCU’s action takes place in New York, some heroes are based elsewhere. Shang-Chi, for example, lives in San Francisco, California. Though it’s not nearby, at least he and the characters in Wonder Man will be in the same state.
Okay, so I’m thinking about where Marvel could take Shang-Chi next, and it’s pretty likely we’ll see him and Katy pop up in other movies for just about any excuse. But I’ve got a theory: what if Shang-Chi starts looking for the guy who pretended to be his dad, Trevor Slattery? If he does, he’s bound to run into Simon, and honestly, I think those two would quickly figure out they’re on the same side, like a proper hero team-up.
Helmut Zemo Gave Simon His Abilities
Fans of the comics understand that Helmut Zemo and Simon Williams have a deep connection, which is a key part of the Wonder Man story. Zemo was actually the one who originally gave Simon his powers, and then controlled him, turning him into a villain. Given that Zemo was the driving force behind the superhero conflict known as Civil War in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems likely he could also be responsible for Simon gaining his abilities.
Following the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Zemo appears to be seeking redemption. However, it’s still uncertain if he’s truly changed, as many fans suspect he might have another plan up his sleeve to achieve his own goals. Simon Williams’ abilities could be related to this hidden agenda.
Hank Pym’s Technology Helped Create Wonder Man’s Powers
Ionic power and the Pym Particles that enable it are closely linked to the character of Hank Pym, who invented them. While Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man, was last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, there’s a possibility he could appear in the Wonder Man series, depending on how accurately the show portrays Wonder Man’s abilities.
Because he understands Pym Particles so well, this brilliant former superhero could guide Williams, explaining how his powers work and offering assistance. It would be refreshing to see Pym separate from the Ant-Man world within the MCU for a change.
