I wholeheartedly immersed myself into the supernatural realm while embodying the enigmatic angel Aziraphale in the smashing comedy series Good Omens. There, I collaborated with the devilishly charming performance of David Tennant’s demon character, forming an unforgettable duo as we battled against the imminent arrival of the Antichrist.

However, Michael Sheen’s initial encounters with the extraordinary took a somewhat unique form, as he witnessed a UFO floating above the industrious Welsh town of Port Talbot.

In an interview with the Scarred For Life podcast, the 56-year-old actor shared that when his family returned to their home town following a short stay in Wallasey, which is close to Liverpool, young Michael strongly believed that the region was teeming with extraterrestrial life.

The actor shared an interesting perspective about Port Talbot: it seems quite unusual, even UFO-like, he stated. In 1977, when we returned to Port Talbot, we settled in a house on the hillside with a view overlooking the town.

Moreover, let me tell you that what you’re witnessing now are fresh constructions of buildings and homes in the area. The family residing to our immediate right, whom I vividly recall moving in when I was eight, had a neighbor, a woman who was subtly conservative and not particularly outgoing. She kept mostly to herself, exhibiting wisdom and sensibility in her actions.

I’ve shared with you a fascinating detail about my friend’s house: When she was in her kitchen, she had a window overlooking her back garden, which gently sloped uphill like a mountain. Interestingly, at that time, no buildings were constructed behind it, offering an untouched view of the landscape.

She was washing dishes in the kitchen when, unexpectedly, she noticed a UFO floating above her backyard.

At the tender age of eight, I was informed about a woman who seemed incredibly wise. Given her credibility, I accepted what I was told as truth.

However, those eerie events were merely the beginning of the enigmatic link between the player from The Damned United and the supernatural, as he personally encountered some bizarre incidents only a few years after that point.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: In 2024, I, myself, moved back to my hometown. During an interview for a show, I shared a memory from my childhood: ‘Around age twelve, I would take the school bus home each day. It would let me off at the end of the road.’

Upon reaching my home, I’d proceed along the driveway, and to my right, the mountain’s edge loomed, while behind me lay the town. Ahead, the horizon stretched towards the sea.

As I was about to turn, I caught sight of something emerging from beyond the mountain’s edge at a distance – a radiant glow appearing.

As I paused, a beam of light appeared, followed by two more, then three more, and eventually a column or line of light seemed to emerge from behind the mountain and drift across the sea.

As I was standing there, the thought crossed my mind that those could be Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), and I was almost positive about it. I felt compelled to rush inside and inform my family about the unusual lights outside, suggesting they take a look as well.

However, I hesitated to enter because I feared they could vanish, so I remained rooted in place, spellbound, as they emerged one by one across the sea. Eventually, they halted and vanished altogether.

Then, I needed to enter the house and say, “I believe I’ve just spotted something unusual,” and of course, nobody took my word for it.

It appears that the extraterrestrial family residing in Port Talbot has yet to depart. Years after this discovery, Michael’s father noticed an unusual object floating above the Welsh coastline.

After many years had passed, we find ourselves approximately a decade ago. It was New Year’s Eve, and he explained that his father climbed up to their bedroom. Despite it being past midnight, he wanted to catch a glimpse of any potential fireworks from his vantage point overlooking the town.

He declared that he spotted an unusual sight in the sky over Port Talbot, which wasn’t simply a light; initially, he assumed it was fireworks. However, what caught his eye were the pulsating, floating lights. He thought to himself, “I’m witnessing something extraordinary, and undoubtedly tomorrow’s news headlines will be about this, sparking conversations among people,” but that didn’t happen.

Based on what I’ve learned recently, it seems there might be some unusual activities happening in Port Talbot, as I’ve been told that people have reported seeing strange occurrences.

This month, many people referred to Michael as a “common man” or “everyday hero”, following his initiative to eliminate £1 million worth of debts for 900 individuals using his personal funds.

In the latest Channel 4 series titled “Michael Sheen’s Secret Million Pound Giveaway,” the renowned actor from The Damned United, aged 56, has invested a substantial amount of his personal savings, approximately £100,000, to clear outstanding debts.

Michael embarked on establishing a business aimed at purchasing debts, inspired by John Oliver’s initiative in the United States nearly a decade prior, with the intention of assisting individuals residing in south Wales.

The program aimed to uncover the methods used by certain banking and financial institutions to generate profits from societies’ most at-risk individuals.

People have been sharing their appreciation for the Welsh actor on social media, expressing their admiration following his efforts to improve the situations of individuals facing financial hardships.

On X, it was shared that Michael Sheen is a genuine representative of the masses. I’d wholeheartedly support him if he ventured into politics. He has a deep understanding and empathy for the people.

Another affectionate user commented: ‘Michael Sheen has consistently been a kind-hearted individual, demonstrated by his tireless support for the NHS, involvement with local charities, exceptional performance in the Passion Play, and his selfless efforts against financial hardship and poverty. An outstanding actor and a commendable person.’

When discussing his action on The One Show, the actor explained: “Since I didn’t have £100,000 to squander, I wanted to make my action count. But when I discovered that I could erase £1m worth of people’s debt by simply writing it off, it felt like a worthwhile endeavor.

Debts are grouped together into packages, allowing debt purchasing firms to acquire these packages. Later, they may resell these packages to other debt purchasing companies at a reduced cost, which is a simplified explanation of debt trading.

Even though the total number of individuals with debt remains unchanged, the value at which these debts are being sold continues to decrease over time.

He shared that he successfully established a company using £100,000 of his personal funds, while also taking on a £1 million debt, as the value had decreased.

Michael found motivation from the individuals he encountered, such as a lady at a café in Port Talbot who shared stories about steelworkers shedding tears due to job losses after the shutdown of the town’s final blast furnace and the decline of conventional steel production in southern Wales.

A month ago, Michael earned praise for backing up his words with actions by establishing a fresh national theater group in Wales.

The actor is reportedly set to become the artistic director of the Welsh National Theatre.

In an interview with The Mirror, Michael expressed his preference for a gradual approach, stating that he finds it appealing to begin modestly and then grow steadily.

The decision was made following National Theatre Wales announcing last month that they would no longer operate due to a reduction of £1.6m in their main funding from Arts Council Wales.

Additionally, Michael disclosed that the freshly established business lacked financing at present, but he would make do with available resources instead.

He shared with the media outlet: “I prefer the concept of beginning modestly, keeping things straightforward and efficient, then gradually expanding and making the most of available resources.

Instead of spending money on expensive, extravagant office spaces that aren’t necessary, consider building a more modest yet thoughtfully crafted one. Infuse it with your dedication, inspiration, aspirations, and vision for the future.

In order to accurately reflect the voice of the Welsh population, I trust that various public institutions will be open to collaborating with us.

It seems prudent, considering historical lessons, that over-reliance on a single funding source may leave us exposed. Ideally, I’d like our company to be self-sufficient, yet we’re eager to collaborate with anyone who wishes to participate in our journey.
