My friends and I used to have fun watching really bad movies, trying to find something to like about them. It was all in good fun – a way to relax and share some laughs. I was reminded of those nights when I saw the movie Mercy before its 2026 release, because my group would have absolutely loved it – it’s a new film starring Chris Pratt.
Even though Mercy isn’t a good movie – our review gave it a 1.5 out of 5 – there’s a way to actually have fun with it. You’ll need a group of friends, a movie theater, and a willingness to embrace the silliness. If you can go in ready to laugh at its over-the-top moments and clichés, it can be surprisingly enjoyable!

This Is One Of Those ‘Better Watch With A Group Of Friends’ Experiences
Usually, press screenings are calm and focused – everyone quietly watches the movie to write reviews or simply enjoy it. But the screening for Mercy was different. People were laughing, talking, and generally having a fun time, even though most agreed the film wasn’t very good.
I had a blast watching this with the cast and crew, and I can only picture how much more fun it would be with my friends – especially those who love cheesy movies! Their reactions to the over-the-top acting, the awkward dialogue, and that crazy helicopter-motorcycle would be priceless.
I don’t think seeing Mercy with the right audience would necessarily improve the movie itself, but it could create a uniquely entertaining experience – something like a mix of Minority Report and The Room.

This Is Like 2025’s War Of The Worlds, But On A Big Screen
While watching Mercy, and even on my drive home afterward, I couldn’t help but compare it to Amazon’s War of the Worlds, which I thought was terrible. Both films share a connection to Amazon, center around characters mostly isolated and staring at screens, and have a somewhat cheesy quality – whether that was the intention or not, I’m not sure.
Okay, so the biggest thing about seeing Mercy is that it’s a real cinematic experience – it was filmed for IMAX and even has a 3D version, which is wild! Instead of watching it by myself, huddled over my laptop, I got to see it with a whole audience, and honestly, sharing those reactions with other people made it so much better. You could wait until it hits streaming on Amazon, but you’d be missing out on what makes this movie special, and I think you’d regret it.
While I didn’t enjoy Mercy as a film – it’s honestly not very good – I think it can be a really fun time at the theater, especially if you go with friends who like similar movies.
