There’s a surprising (but welcoming) update about It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 17
As a die-hard fan of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia“, I’ve been through thick and thin with the gang at Paddy’s Pub. And let me tell you, hearing that season 17 has wrapped up filming is like a warm, sunny day in the middle of winter for this Philly enthusiast!
For all you “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” enthusiasts, we’re making steady progress towards bringing season 17 to your screens! Co-creator and actor, Rob McElhenney, has shared some highly optimistic news that brings us a step closer to the air date.
According to Screen Rant, McElhenney announced that the seventeenth season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has wrapped up filming on FX. This news is truly exciting as we’ve been eagerly anticipating new episodes since the finale of season 16 aired in July 2023. Despite the quick turnaround, with filming starting only in October 2024, it just goes to show how swift sitcoms can be compared to dramas!
It’s understandable that there was a break between seasons 16 and 17. This is because an actors’ strike occurred in Hollywood shortly after the finale, which was followed by a writers’ strike in May that lasted for some time. The actors’ strike ended in November 2023, with the writers’ strike wrapping up a month prior to that.
Indeed, it’s been over a year now, and while many productions have faced delays in resuming regular operations, that’s understandable given the circumstances. The cast members have also been occupied with other ventures, which is perfectly fine considering their success. For instance, Kaitlin Olson’s High Potential series on ABC has been a huge hit among fans. As supporters, we appreciate and celebrate their achievements!
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the wait for new episodes of “It’s Always Sunny” won’t be too long due to its comedic nature and swift post-production process. However, FX hasn’t given us any hint about the release date or total number of episodes yet. Here’s hoping for an early spring premiere that lines up nicely with the much-anticipated “Abbott Elementary” crossover episode!
Absolutely! If you’re a follower of the series, you might have already caught wind that “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Abbott Elementary” are set for an extraordinary and eagerly awaited crossover event (I had a feeling!). Interestingly, there will be not just one but two instances. The initial encounter will find the gang visiting Abbott School on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, airing on ABC. Later in season 17, the group of teachers and staff from the school will pay a visit to Paddy’s Pub.
I’m absolutely thrilled and can hardly contain my excitement for these shows! They’re going to be fantastic, I just know it. The writers and creators behind them are simply brilliant and talented, and as a fan of both, I can’t wait to indulge in this sweet delight. Here’s hoping FX doesn’t keep us waiting too long for the new season of It’s Always Sunny, and we get some updates soon!
