There’s a new MMA movie in the works starring Russell Crowe
As a seasoned gamer and MMA enthusiast with over two decades of following the sport, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism about Russell Crowe‘s upcoming role in The Beast in Me. On one hand, it’s always refreshing to see MMA getting mainstream attention, especially with a big name like Crowe on board. However, as someone who has watched countless MMA movies that never quite lived up to the hype, I can’t help but wonder if this film will be any different.
Based on Variety’s report, Russell Crowe is set to appear in an upcoming MMA film titled “The Beast in Me“. Interestingly, this isn’t just any Russell Crowe – he’s the 60-year-old actor we all know. However, contrary to initial expectations, Crowe won’t be portraying the fighter himself; instead, he’ll take on the role of a veteran trainer in the movie. The part of the fighter will be played by Daniel MacPherson. This character has faced a personal tragedy involving his brother and decides to return to the ring for a match under ONE Championship.
That’s about all we know about the film so far, but call be pessemistic. If you’re going to produce a film about MMA and use a real fight promotion why are you choosing ONE Championship? Especially right now when they are marred over controversy about weight cutting, contracts and more.
It appears that the movie is still in its initial stages, as no updates such as trailers or release dates have been announced yet. This leaves room for potential changes or even cancellation of the project altogether.
On the more positive side, it’s always nice to see MMA getting a more mainstream attention, especially with a big name like Crowe involved. But whenever I see MMA movies they always seem so cheesy and overdone, they never end up like Rocky or other iconic boxing films.
Who is Daniel MacPherson the man playing an MMA fighter?
If you’re not acquainted with MacPherson, let me fill you in. He hails from Australia and maintains an Instagram account where he shares glimpses into his life as a husband and father. Despite appearing quite ordinary, taking on the role of a fighter could be a stretch (I jest, I jest). He gained recognition for acting roles in productions such as Foundation, Strike Back, and Land of Bad. Additionally, he made appearances on the TV show Neighbours from 1998 to 2022 across a total of 376 episodes. This long-running series was an Australian soap opera, in case you’re into that genre.
We’ll make sure to inform everyone as soon as the movie gets released, whether it’s in theaters or streaming platforms. In the meantime, let’s hope for the best and keep positive thoughts so that it turns out great!
