There's a hidden What We Do In The Shadows series finale coming next week!

As a dedicated fan who has followed the hilarious antics of Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Guillermo, and Colin Robinson since the very beginning, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and sadness as we approach the final chapter of “What We Do In The Shadows.” The news that an eleventh episode, “The Finale,” will air in 2024, extending this vampiric journey by a year, has brought a glimmer of hope to my heart.

On the given Monday, the tenth installment of the sixth series, known as “The Promotion,” was released on both Hulu and FX for “What We Do In The Shadows.” This vampire-themed sitcom has been entertaining viewers since 2019, and this sixth season marks its conclusion. Since each previous season comprised a total of ten episodes, some spectators speculated that this would be the end.

However, here’s a surprise! For the upcoming sixth season, there’ll be an additional eleventh episode added to the schedule, airing on Monday, December 16, 2024. Known as “The Finale,” it promises to conclude the tales of Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Guillermo, and Colin Robinson.

Being an ardent fan since the show’s debut, I’m delighted to receive this additional tidbit at its conclusion. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to executive producers Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the visionaries behind the 2014 movie “What We Do In the Shadows,” for their tireless efforts.

Regarding Waititi, he shared some thoughts about wrapping up the series with Entertainment Weekly. He quipped, “It’s been running for way too long, but I’m pleased with it.” He admitted that while making the film, he told Jemaine, “This feels like a five-minute concept being stretched into a movie.” Unexpectedly, they ended up creating six seasons based on the same idea.

2014 saw the release of a movie that became a cult favorite, however, it seemed difficult for Waititi and Jemaine to convince studios to back it: “We encountered rejection from every studio we approached with our pitch because we said, ‘The budget will be $1 million,’ to which they replied, ‘We’re unsure how to produce a film at that price point.’ I recall this conversation,” Waititi shared. “They asked, ‘Who are the stars of the movie? Who is involved?’ We responded, ‘We aim to get Johnny,’ and they reacted with enthusiasm, ‘Johnny, yes, Johnny Depp, we understand!’ However, we clarified, ‘No, we meant our friend Johnny [Brugh]. He’s a landscape architect in Auckland.’

Recently, film production companies have been overextending themselves, leading to mid-budget or independent films becoming less common. The triumph of “What We Do In The Shadows” might serve as a valuable lesson; it began as a modestly produced film that surpassed expectations, and then evolved into a successful television series running for six seasons. By providing room for fresh concepts to flourish, everyone stands to gain!
