There won’t be a new episode of Matlock in 2024 (Is there good news?)

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours binge-watching shows on streaming platforms, I must say that the return of Matlock in 2025 is like leveling up in my favorite TV series game. After patiently waiting for the likes of Chicago PD and High Potential, it’s refreshing to know that Matlock will be back on my screen in just a month!

Among the outstanding shows airing on CBS this year, it’s undeniably Matlock that stands out. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that there will be no fresh episodes aired in the year 2024.

This news isn’t catastrophic for the series in general; it’s not overly concerning either. Remember, this is the season when many shows go on hiatus. We’ve been eagerly anticipating the comebacks of shows like Chicago PD and High Potential. Since CBS began later than other networks in the fall, it’s only natural that it would end a bit later in December as well.

Matlock will return in January 2025

You don’t have much time left to wait! “Matlock” is slated to come back on Thursday, January 30th, and it will still be airing at its usual time of 9 PM Eastern and Pacific Time. The entire Thursday schedule will resume as normal then.

As someone who has been in the television industry for over a decade, I can confidently say that this show is performing exceptionally well. The timeslot it occupies appears to be a goldmine for the network, judging from the impressive linear ratings. It’s worth noting that its strong start was undoubtedly boosted by the Sunday special that aired during the series premiere. Having been part of shows that struggled in their initial stages, I can attest to the importance of a solid launch and how it sets the tone for the rest of the series. This show has certainly set itself up for success from the get-go.

There’s already great news for Matlock’s future

Looking forward to seeing more of Kathy Bates as the leading character? You’re in luck! The second season of ‘Matlock’ has already been greenlit by CBS, as they were pleased with the initial performance of the series.

Bates’ final act in this series has been delayed due to another season, which means she’ll postpone her retirement briefly. She’s not bothered by it, though, as this role was a cherished opportunity for her because it portrays the reality of aging women and challenges societal perceptions. Mattie offers a glimpse into the true experiences of older women, and it’s high time we change our perspective on this matter.

Matlock will return on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
