There seems to be some confusion about Star Trek's newest film

As a lifelong Trekkie who’s witnessed the voyages of the Enterprise from the original series to Discovery, I must admit, I’m both excited and apprehensive about “Star Trek Origins”. The idea of delving into humanity’s first encounters with aliens is intriguing, but the fear of messing with continuity looms large.

As a passionate Star Trek fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming movie, informally known as “Star Trek Origins” within our community. Though it might not be the final title, this working title gives us a hint at what we can expect: a journey back to the dawn of human-alien interaction, set right at the beginning of the Star Trek timeline. Can’t wait to see how Earth’s first encounters with extraterrestrial life unfold on the big screen!

The plan is to introduce and grow the idea of the United Federation of Planets, aiming to connect it to Star Trek: Enterprise. In other words, we’re hoping for a smooth transition, considering there are worries about potential continuity issues. It seems some people fail to understand that Origins will be set within the main timeline.

Wrath of Khan II,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” and “Star Trek: Discovery,” will also feature a new addition called “Origins.” However, it’s important to note that “Origins” is not part of the Kelvin timeline at all.

In the discussions about this movie, it appears that a key aspect is being overlooked. Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t a prequel to the Kelvin series; instead, it delves into the timeline’s history and focuses on Chris Pine’s character, James Kirk.

One outlet suggested that Origins is a Star Trek: Enterprise reboot, but that’s still inaccurate. It’s a brand new film and it’s one that seems to be getting far more traction by studio officials than that of the fourth Kelvin film that would feature Pine and company.

Due to the film being set deep in Star Trek’s past, some fans worry that it may contradict decades of established storylines for a concept that seems unpopular and unnecessary. This is why many hope the movie takes place in the Kelvin timeline, so if mistakes are made, they won’t impact the original narrative significantly.
