Theo James’s horror movie compared to Final Destination in rave first reactions

In initial enthusiastic responses, Theo James’ horror film titled “The Monkey” has been likened to the movie “Final Destination.

Under the direction of Osgood Perkins, who also worked on ‘Longlegs’, and inspired by a short tale penned by Stephen King, ‘The Monkey’ unfolds the narrative of twin brothers Hal and Bill, portrayed by James in a dual role, as they join forces to rid themselves of an enchanted monkey toy from their past.

The film, where characters succumb to strange and creative demises orchestrated by the main character, a toy monkey, has garnered positive reviews, with several critics likening it to the Final Destination series.

Eric Goldman described the movie as an exhilarating, gory spectacle, indicating it veered significantly from the previous movie titled “Longlegs.

‘The Monkey’ is a fantastic, action-packed film that significantly departs from the atmosphere of ‘Longlegs.’ Instead, it delves deeply into horror-comedy, as director Osgood Perkins appears to have had a great time venturing into the realm of ‘Final Destination,’ delivering one shockingly gruesome, twisted death scene after another,” he stated.

Russ Milheim from The Direct described “The Monkey” as a thoroughly wild and brutally funny dark comedy, teeming with inventively gruesome deaths that will keep viewers gripped, roaring with laughter throughout. Fans of “Final Destination” are sure to find themselves comfortably immersed in this thrilling ride.

As a fan myself, I can’t help but echo the sentiments of Mama’s Geeky critic Tessa Smith. Just like how Final Destination set a new standard for horror movies, The Monkey seems to be following suit, taking things to an exhilarating extreme in the absolute best fashion possible.

“I find myself continuously pondering over ‘The Monkey.’ It has a vibe similar to ‘Final Destination,’ but amplified for the better. I’m eagerly anticipating the moment when I can see my friends react to it.

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff commented: “The Monkey” is an incredibly gory thrill! A relentless sequence of delightfully gruesome killings that elicited every ‘oh my goodness’ reaction from me. I appreciated how swiftly Oz Perkins establishes this adaptation of the Stephen King short story as distinctively his own.

The Monkey will be released in cinemas on February 21.
