Their rift rocked Sydney’s elite. Now Pip Edwards’ former BFF has a new boyfriend – and it could lead to some awkward conversations…
Pip Edwards isn’t the only one with a new man to show off.
A few short weeks back, P.E Nation’s co-founder was seen with her new beau, Joshua Clapp, during a radiant getaway at Camp Cove.
On Monday morning, her previous business partner, Claire Greaves (with whom she started the popular activewear brand back in 2016), executed a comparable “hard launch” at Avalon Beach.
After her 11-year marriage with cinematographer Tim Tregoning concluded discreetly around the middle of 2022, Claire has been seen getting close to mixologist Matt Whiley who is also known as a ‘bar lord’.
And it wouldn’t be a Sydney society story without a little intrigue…
It turns out that Matt shares an unexpected link with Claire’s ex-friend and business associate Pip, who recently departed from P.E Nation and is now back at the helm as Creative Director for Ksubi.
With green towels draped across them, the couple approached the sandy shore. Claire then adjusted a blue hat, drawing it down low, concealing her eyes beneath a pair of stylish sunglasses.
Afterward, the entrepreneur changed into a modest, waist-hugging white swimsuit, and she, along with Matt – a renowned mixologist – ventured into the sea for a refreshing dip.
Matt is best known for his sustainability-focused bar Re in Sydney.
Beyond running his unique gin brand, Wolf’s Nose, he stands as a significant figure in the nightlife scene. In partnership with others, he established seven acclaimed bars – five in Sydney and two in London, each earning recognition for their exceptional service.
Though Claire and her former friend Pip have grown apart following their disagreement, they continue to maintain a connection via their new companions. This could potentially cause some unease in the future.
It turns out that Matt has a friendship with Joshua, who happens to be Pip’s recent companion. Both of these gentlemen are well-known figures in the hospitality industry. In fact, Joshua runs the construction and design firm called Steel and Stitch, which is responsible for some popular venues around Sydney.
Just a year ago, Joshua created a short-lived bar for Matt called Little Cooler, located in a building slated for demolition within the next few years. This structure served as its temporary home.
Last year, there developed a significant disagreement between Pip and Claire that marked the conclusion of one of Australia’s longest-lasting and financially successful collaborations in the fashion industry.
Claire, along with Pip, initially established P.E Nation, a popular athleisure brand favored by mothers in the affluent suburbs. Their venture eventually made them multimillionaires. However, Claire relinquished her daily responsibilities at the brand back in March of the previous year.
Currently, P.E Nation announced that she is embarking on different creative ventures and planning to steer her career towards a new path.
Claire and Pip subsequently became embroiled in whispers of a disagreement, with Pip subsequently deleting any evidence of Claire on P.E Nation’s social media platforms, a gesture that seemed to suggest their partnership had ended, effectively removing years of promotional content for the sportswear brand.
Following Claire’s departure, Pip assumed the role of the single creative director and completely revamped and reintroduced the brand. However, she subsequently announced her own resignation as well.
In August, Pip declared she was stepping away from her role and would no longer serve as the creative director, a position she assumed after Claire’s departure. A month later, in September, she rejoined the streetwear label Ksubi, where she initially gained recognition during the Noughties, serving once again as its creative director.
Although neither woman has disclosed the cause for their split, Pip stated in June of last year that Claire was considered the “primary” partner in their business venture.
In P.E. Nation, my business partner handled the design aspect while I focused on marketing, as she explained during her interview on the Kyle and Jackie O Show.
Later, Pip shared that she cherished the times she worked alongside her ex-partner and commended Claire for her exceptional design skills.
In the latter half of 2022, I chose to part ways with my husband, Tim, before our business partnership concluded. However, we decided to keep our separation a private matter until we announced it publicly in early 2023.
In the interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, she stated that our relationship continues to be friendly and warm, we continue to parent together, and he remains a wonderful friend of mine.
Life evolves, and it has done so for us as well. We’re navigating these changes together, showing each other great respect and providing one another with ample support.
