The Young Avengers’ Original MCU Debut Just Got Revealed, And It Involved Kang

Recent reports indicate Marvel Studios had plans for a Young Avengers movie that were ultimately cancelled. The studio has been hinting at a team-up of these teenage superheroes for a while, with moments like the connection between Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop in The Marvels. However, the team hasn’t officially formed in a movie yet.

A prominent Marvel insider revealed that there were once discussions about bringing the Young Avengers team together for the first time in what was originally planned as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

During a recent question-and-answer session on the r/movies subreddit, Loki creator Michael Waldron revealed that he and writer Jeff Loveness had an idea for The Kang Dynasty where the Young Avengers would defeat a version of Kang. They were excited about the concept, but learned that this particular Kang was a new recruit – a note on his character indicated it was ‘his first day’.

Jeff Loveness and I came up with a Young Avengers story where they fought a version of Kang, and we were really excited about it. But then we found out this Kang was new to the job – he literally had a card saying to be patient with him! It was a bit of a letdown. We thought he might have been the lizard version of Kang from the ‘Kang Dynasty’ movie, but we’re not sure. Still, it was a fun brainstorming session.

This should have been a celebratory moment for the new heroes, as they enjoyed what they believed was a victory over a powerful enemy. However, they soon realized this version of Kang was still a developing threat.

Rick Remender was hired to write The Kang Dynasty in November 2023, right after Destin Daniel Cretton—the director currently filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day—left the project.

Originally planned as The Kang Dynasty, the movie was scrapped shortly after Jonathan Majors, who was set to star, faced assault and harassment charges and was removed from the project. Now, the film has been reimagined as Avengers: Doomsday, with the iconic villain Doctor Doom taking center stage instead of Kang the Conqueror.

When Will the Young Avengers Assemble in the MCU?

Although the funny ‘Young Avengers’ story idea involving Kang didn’t happen in a movie, it doesn’t mean we’ll never see this popular comic book team join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s highly likely that some version of the Young Avengers will be involved in the upcoming Avengers movie, now titled Avengers: Doomsday.

At the end of The Marvels, we saw Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) beginning to build a team, and it looks like Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) will be her first recruit. Could this lead to them joining forces with Earth’s most powerful heroes to battle the evil Doctor Doom?

A report from September 2025 suggested the group would appear in the new movie.

Adding to the excitement, there’s also a lot of talk about Marvel Studios potentially creating a Young Avengers movie or TV show. Rumor has it that a series focusing on the Young Avengers, called Champions, has been in the works at Marvel for a while now.

The team could finally unite in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, team up with popular heroes such as Thor, Captain America, and Black Panther in Secret Wars, and then launch into their own adventures soon after.
