The WWE Women’s United States Championship will be a test for the company
As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating through various digital worlds and stories, I find myself drawn to the real-life narrative unfolding within the WWE Women’s Division. The upcoming tournament for the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion is akin to embarking on an epic quest in my favorite RPG game.
The competition for the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Title has begun. On the November 15th episode of SmackDown, Bayley was the initial competitor to progress, with more matches still to be played out. The victor will be announced during the WWE Saturday Night Main Event broadcast on December 14th. Fans are thrilled at the possibility of a mid-card title for the women’s division. However, this tournament is set to test the creative direction that is being developed for the main roster shows.
On SmackDown, there’s an impressive pool of female wrestlers, including veterans like Bayley, Candice LeRae, and Michin, as well as fresh faces such as Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, and B-Fab. There are also several others in the middle. This abundance of talent should enable SmackDown to regularly produce contenders for the women’s championship titles. However, a challenge that both SmackDown and Monday Night Raw face is that the creative teams seem limited in their vision beyond the title pictures. Currently, there aren’t many stories being told on TV that cultivate the next potential challengers for the champions. As a result, no performer has a strong momentum or credibility when challenging the champion.
Instead of mirroring WWE NXT’s weekly programming, consider altering it like this: As opposed to what airs on WWE NXT weekly, there are numerous bouts and scenes showcasing diverse aspects of the women’s division, ensuring a rotation of performers on screen, even if they aren’t title contenders. A standout example was Lola Vice and Jaida Parker’s intense hardcore match without any championship implications. This was essentially a rivalry between two antagonistic women. As time passes, these performers are given a boost when it comes to re-entering the title picture. To maintain balance, more booking of this nature should be applied to both SmackDown and Raw’s women’s divisions. The men receive this style of booking, as demonstrated by Seth Rollins vs. Bronson Reed. It’s high time for the women to experience the same level of attention.
Upcoming battles for the WWE Women’s United States Championship will serve as a significant gauge of advancements made in WWE television scripting. This is a chance to demonstrate that WWE values and nurtures the skills of their female talent pool. To avoid repeating past mistakes such as the initial handling of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, it’s crucial for WWE to prioritize this division further. The potential lies within these women, and now is the moment to capitalize on it by investing more in the growth of the female wrestling division.
