The WWE Women's Tag Division thrives, but there's still work to do

As a gamer who’s been through countless battles in the virtual wrestling ring, I must say that the latest WWE Crown Jewel was a breath of fresh air, especially for the women’s tag team division. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill defending their titles against some tough competitors like Meta-Four and Damage CTRL was nothing short of spectacular!

At WWE Crown Jewel’s most recent event, a thrilling four-cornered contest unfolded in the women’s tag team category. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill successfully kept their hold on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, fending off challenges from Meta-Four, Damage CTRL, and duos Piper Niven & Chelsea Green. From beginning to end, this match was a delight to watch, undoubtedly one of the standout moments during the show. Additionally, it underscored how far the women’s tag team division has progressed since its inception, demonstrating significant growth from earlier booking decisions.

The WWE women’s tag team division hasn’t gotten much attention or support. Right from the start, it seemed like an afterthought compared to how WWE Creative handled the singles divisions on the main roster. The careless planning with the female wrestlers was so poor that Mercedes Mone (formerly Sasha Banks) and Naomi ultimately decided to leave the company entirely.

It’s accurate to state that these women competing in this group are thriving, but it’s worth noting that Cargill and Belair are currently leading the division. They are exceptional talents who possess the charisma to captivate audiences, and they each have a devoted fanbase. WWE is effectively spotlighting Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson as the potential future stars of the women’s division. Meanwhile, IYO Sky, Kairi Sane, Piper Niven, Chelsea Green, and others are contributing significantly to making the titles significant.

In much the same way that problems persist in the women’s singles division, they are surfacing in the tag team division too. Currently, Belair and Cargill are set to face Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez at some stage. However, with Liv Morgan being the WWE Women’s World Champion, she has a new contender in IYO SKY. Yet, her focus seems diverted elsewhere. Despite having such a talent-rich roster on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, WWE Creative continues to grapple with promoting fresh faces towards title contention.

In the women’s division, the focus remains heavily imbalanced. By solely concentrating on the tag team division, no single contenders have emerged for Morgan. Placing Morgan and Rodriguez in the tag title scene, however, means all titles are concentrated in one location, reducing the chances for other women to challenge. WWE has an abundance of weekly airtime across three shows and limitless media resources to foster fresh challengers for both titles. Having several performers ready to challenge the champion(s) would increase competition, but WWE is falling short in this aspect for the women’s division.

Under the creative leadership of Triple H, the WWE women’s division experiences victories and defeats. On one side, the tag team segment is flourishing with exciting matches in recent months. However, this success seems to have slowed down the development of the singles division. There’s still much progress to be made in that area.
