The Witcher wraps filming on season 4, Freya Allan (Ciri) bids farewell to The Rats
As a veteran movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Netflix’s The Witcher has been one of the most captivating and well-crafted series to grace our screens in recent years. Having followed the journey of Geralt of Rivia since the very beginning, I can confidently say that the fourth season is shaping up to be a masterpiece that will leave fans breathless.
Geralt of Rivia has completed another stage in his journey, and it appears that the fourth season of Netflix’s supernatural series The Witcher has concluded filming. This information was shared by a reputable source, Redanian Intelligence, who noticed that Ciri actress Freya Allan posted a heartfelt message to The Rats, her fellow thieves in the show, on Instagram. In her post, she expressed her love for each of them and thanked them for an exceptional season of The Witcher. Along with her message, she also included artwork for each character.
In the finale of season 3, Ciri came across a group of teenage miscreants who were actually thieves. This gang was her companions throughout Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel “Baptism of Fire,” so it’s only natural that Allan must have spent considerable time with the actors portraying these characters: Christelle Elwin (Mistle), Aggy K. Adams (Iskra), Ben Radcliffe (Giselher), Juliette Alexandra (Reef), Fabian McCallum (Kayleigh), and Connor Crawford (Asse).
Production for The Witcher’s fourth season kicked off in April 2024 and was completed approximately seven months later. Principal filming occurred at various scenic spots, with the Longcross Studio near London serving as a significant hub, where it’s thought that much of the series’ soundstage work took place. Recently, they also filmed some sequences in Wales, which are rumored to depict parts of the Battle of the Bridge – a pivotal skirmish from Baptism of Fire – slated for season 4.
As a discerning movie enthusiast, I stumbled upon some intriguing snapshots from the wrap party for the current season. The authenticity of these photos is somewhat questionable due to their unknown origin, but the sleuths at Redanian Intelligence seldom err, so I have a hunch they’re the real deal.

When does The Witcher season 4 release?
Currently, The Witcher is moving into post-production phase. In a recent interview, lead actor Liam Hemsworth revealed that after completion of filming, there will be a four-month break, following which the cast will resume work in early 2024 for an eight-month shoot of the fifth and final season. However, we don’t have information on when exactly season 4 will air.
Based on my estimation and Redanian Intelligence’s belief as well, it seems likely that The Witcher season 4 could premiere around mid to late 2025. They calculate that filming for season 3 ended in September 2022, with the release taking place in June and July of 2023. Assuming some additional time is needed for post-production on season 4, it’s quite possible we could be enjoying new episodes by 2025.
But even if we aren’t, there’ll be plenty of other Witcher stuff to keep us occupied. A new animated spinoff movie, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, premieres on Netflix on February 11, 2025. Author Andrzej Sapkowski has also finished a new Witcher novel which is expected to hit bookstore shelves in Poland this December and release internationally sometime afterward. So we’ll have plenty of ways to visit the Continent next year.
