The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep gets release date and new clip with game actor Doug Cockle returning as Geralt

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent immersed in the vast and enchanting world of The Witcher, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming animated film, “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep,” set to hit Netflix screens on February 11, 2025.

Prepare yourself for a return to the Continent in 2025! Netflix has disclosed some exciting updates about its upcoming spinoff series from “The Witcher,” complete with a release date: February 11, 2025. The new animated film titled “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” will delve into Geralt of Rivia’s monster-hunting past, introducing a fresh adversary for the franchise – merpeople.

Initially, I was looking forward to diving into “Sirens of the Deep” in 2024. However, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer, as the release date has been pushed back to early 2025. Given Netflix’s low-key approach towards this movie throughout the year, I wasn’t expecting any updates. But now, I can hardly contain my excitement as the news is finally out!

The animated series “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is intriguing for several reasons, one being the comeback of Doug Cockle, who lent his voice to Geralt in the cherished video game series from CD Projekt Red. While Henry Cavill might be recognized as Geralt by many TV viewers due to the Netflix show, Cockle was already winning hearts and minds as the gritty mutant swordsman long before Cavill came onto the scene. In fact, Cavill has admitted that he closely studied Cockle’s performance while developing his portrayal of Geralt.

During Netflix’s Geeked Week, we received our inaugural sneak peek into the depths with a clip from Sirens of the Deep. It was preceded by a warm welcome from none other than Cockle himself! Don’t miss this tantalizing glimpse:

The clip features Geralt and Jaskier talking around a campfire, and their conversation contains some interesting hints about what to expect in the movie. First off, we’re going to learn more about Jaskier’s past in this film, since they’re returning to his hometown. It hasn’t been confirmed yet whether Joey Batey is voicing Jaskier in this movie or if it’s someone else, but presumably we’ll find that out soon. Second, Geralt is going to be tending not just to monsters, but to matters of the heart.

The animated series “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is inspired by Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story titled “A Little Sacrifice,” found within the book “Sword of Destiny.” Although several short stories from this book were adapted for season 1 of “The Witcher,” not all could be included. As an individual tale featuring Geralt and Jaskier, “A Little Sacrifice” was initially left out, but given its significance as an early Geralt story, I’m eager to see Netflix breathe life into it through animation.

In the narrative sequence, the events unfold during one of the rocky phases in Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship, prior to his encounter with Ciri. For the timeline in the TV show, it appears to be situated between Episode 105, “Bottled Appetites,” and Episode 106, “Rare Species,” as Geralt and Jaskier remain friendly in the clip shown. This tale centers around Geralt dealing with his heartbreak following Yen’s rejection, and discovering a fresh romance in an unanticipated location. We can expect to see more of Essi Daven, the character mentioned by Jaskier, in the movie.

The animation film titled ‘The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep’ is brought to you by Studio Mir, who also crafted the previous animated ‘Witcher’ film ‘The Nightmare of the Wolf’. Screenplay duties were handled by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin. ‘Witcher’ showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich functions as both a producer and author, while renowned author Andrzej Sapkowski lends his creative expertise as a consultant. Here’s a brief summary of the movie:

In a coastal hamlet, Geralt of Rivia, a hunter with a unique genetic makeup, is enlisted to probe a string of violent incidents. He unknowingly becomes embroiled in an age-old strife between humans and aquatic beings. To untangle this mystery before tensions between their realms explode into a full-blown conflict, Geralt relies on both familiar and fresh allies.

On February 11, 2025, “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” will premiere on Netflix! With season 4 of “The Witcher,” featuring Liam Hemsworth, expected to arrive next year as well, it looks like the Continent could have a significant year ahead.
