The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski finishes new book about Geralt of Rivia

As a die-hard fan with decades of immersion into the magical world of The Witcher, I can hardly contain my excitement! With each new book and season, it feels like stepping back into an old friend’s company, albeit one who happens to be a battle-hardened monster hunter.

The Witcher series originated modestly when author Andrzej Sapkowski penned a short tale featuring a monster-slayer named Geralt of Rivia for the Polish magazine Fantastyka in 1986. Over almost four decades, Sapkowski has crafted numerous stories and multiple Witcher novels, with no signs of slowing down. In an interview with Chimeres, the author revealed that he had completed another book centered around Geralt, stating, “I have finished the book. It took me approximately two years to accomplish it.”

For some time now, we’ve had word that Sapkowski has been penning a new Witcher novel. As per Redanian Intelligence reports, the anticipated release of this book is slated for this upcoming winter season. Given that it’s presumably already completed, there seems to be little reason to doubt its arrival.

The title and summary for the upcoming book are still undisclosed, but it has been confirmed that Geralt of Rivia will be the main character. Author Sapkowski hinted, “The story revolves around Geralt, but I won’t reveal further details,” and added that it falls outside the Witcher saga pentology.

Prior to this new book, Andrzej Sapkowski had already written eight books related to ‘The Witcher’. The initial two, titled “The Last Wish” and “Sword of Destiny”, are collections of his short stories featuring ‘The Witcher’. The subsequent five form a continuous series, often referred to as the “pentalogy”, which includes “Blood of Elves”, “Time of Contempt”, “Baptism of Fire”, “The Tower of the Swallow” and “The Lady of the Lake”. Lastly, there’s “Season of Storms”, a self-contained novel that takes place during an earlier phase in Geralt’s adventures, distinct from the events following the ‘The Witcher Saga’. This upcoming book is anticipated to follow the structure of “Season of Storms”, offering another standalone story set early in Geralt’s career.

To discover what happens to Geralt following the conclusion of the Witcher Saga, you might want to explore The Witcher video games created by CD Projekt Red, which gained immense popularity in the 2010s and significantly impacted Netflix’s choice to adapt Sapkowski’s books into a TV series. Currently, The Witcher has been airing on Netflix for three seasons, having already adapted The Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, Blood of Elves, and Time of Contempt. The forthcoming fourth season will delve into the remaining three books in the original series, excluding Season of Storms, while a fifth season is planned to conclude the storyline.

Initially, I was thrilled to see Henry Cavill embody Geralt of Rivia on Netflix, but as we move forward into season 4, Liam Hemsworth will take over the role instead. Anticipate new episodes around 2025. Admittedly, many fans were disheartened by the recasting announcement, yet with Sapkowski still penning fresh tales about Geralt’s life at various stages, perhaps there’s potential for diverse portrayals.
