Willy Chavarria and adidas Originals have revealed a powerful campaign to coincide with their debut SS25 collaborative collection. Captured by Los Angeles-based photographer Carlos Jaramillo, this campaign stars Candace Parker, Skyy Clark, and Alejandro Speitzer, highlighting the fusion of Chavarria’s and adidas’s design aesthetics while paying tribute to the rich Chicano culture rooted in South Central LA.
Consisting of two product launches in May and July, the ready-to-wear and footwear line showcases Chavarria’s signature oversized shapes, classic motifs, and Mexican emblems. Black athletic attire displays adidas’s iconic stripes and trefoil in Chavarria’s distinctive red tone, along with rose embroideries that are a common element across his designs. In footwear, adidas revives the 1978-originated Jabbar basketball shoe, offering it as the Chavarria Jabbar Low and Chavarria Jabbar Dress models.
Wearing a distinctive look is a baggy white sweatshirt featuring design elements inspired by the Mexican flag – red and green panels, with prominent “adidas” and “Willy Chavarria” logos at the back. On the front of the sweatshirt, the word “Chicano” is written in Willy Chavarria’s Old English typeface, while the Aztec eagle emblem, as seen on the flag, takes center stage.
In a statement, Chavarria expressed that adidas’ role within Chicano culture has been largely overlooked. He enjoys showcasing this well-known brand in a manner that resonates with his past experiences and current usage. Collaborating on this project in Los Angeles with his close friends and relatives was a meaningful and intimate journey for him. It provided an opportunity to highlight the charm of our Brown community members against the familiar backdrop that many of us call home.
The collaboration between Willy Chavarria and adidas Originals SS25 line will become available in selected adidas retail outlets, the adidas CONFIRMED app, as well as on both the Willy Chavarria and adidas online stores. The initial launch is set for May 8, with a second release planned for July 10.
