Taylor Swift’s upcoming projects are usually shrouded in mystery until she decides it’s time to share the news. Fans, known as Swifties, speculate endlessly about what might be next, often by finding Easter eggs or hints left behind by Swift. Yet, most of the details remain tightly sealed. This pattern seems to continue with her upcoming twelfth album, as rumors swirl about the lengths she is said to have gone to keep a new song secret during its music video filming.
With the Eras Tour concluded, excitement for Taylor Swift’s upcoming album is reaching an all-time high as The Tortured Poets Department reports that she now owns all her music outright. Given the recent whispers of a new music video being filmed in Los Angeles by the pop sensation herself, it seems we may be on the cusp of hearing her new tunes soon!
Yet, neither the musical style nor the content of the video is known to anyone, not even the crew working on its production, as stated in a report from The Sun. It’s claimed that those involved in this rumored new music video for Swift were reportedly prohibited from listening to the actual music. An anonymous source asserted:
The project was so highly classified that those involved couldn’t even listen to the song; they were only permitted to hear the beat. Despite taking a break from touring and spending more time with Travis, she continues to work on various projects that are sure to delight her fans.
It seems that last week, the singer was in Los Angeles shooting a video for her latest song, but there was reportedly a high level of confidentiality surrounding the project, similar to a presidential operation. As such, the film crew was unaware of the song’s theme because they couldn’t hear it. Furthermore, those involved in the production were required to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
That’s pretty intense security to protect a song, but I get it.
Taylor Swift stands among the most prominent pop artists globally, with her followers (count me among them) eagerly awaiting updates on her activities, closely tied to her career and personal life. To safeguard these aspects of her life, stringent measures are necessary to maintain privacy and confidentiality.
This whole gossiped-about scenario brings to mind the lengths Marvel takes to preserve their secrets, as they did with Ironheart. While excessive, not distributing complete scripts or having actors wear cloaks helps safeguard the project and prevents unwanted spoilers. They can’t risk someone like, unfortunately, a young Tom Holland accidentally leaking information, and I imagine Swift is in a similar position of secrecy.
Just as top-tier films require a level of secrecy even among those involved in their production, so too do prominent musicians maintain a veil of privacy around their work. The fear is always present that someone may inadvertently reveal information or that something might find its way into the public sphere. As such, these individuals take measures to safeguard their content.
It’s said that on this occasion, it seemed like Taylor Swift didn’t play the song for her team, which is quite unusual. Yet, if this is for a fresh track and album, they’ll join us in being surprised with the release of Taylor Swift’s music video just as we will be.
