The wild ‘Cocaine Clause’ in prenup that could see Keith Urban walk away with millions after shock split from Nicole Kidman

As a lifestyle expert, I’m hearing that Keith Urban could be looking at a payout of over $17 million after his split from Nicole Kidman. And the reason is pretty fascinating! Apparently, their prenuptial agreement includes a clause connected to his sobriety. It’s a unique situation, but it highlights how important it is to consider all aspects when creating a prenuptial agreement – even personal commitments.

According to Radar Online, the singer, 57, who was born in New Zealand, reportedly had a prenuptial agreement with Nicole, 58, before they married in 2006. The agreement states he will receive $900,000 for each year they are married.

However, the contract includes a clause – often referred to as a ‘Cocaine Clause’ – which stipulates that Urban will only receive the funds if he remained free from drugs and alcohol throughout their marriage.

During their 19 years together, the couple-who were once very prominent-built up a large collection of properties reportedly worth $282 million.

Urban has long been open about his past struggles with addiction.

During a 2010 conversation with Oprah Winfrey, he shared that Nicole organized an intervention only a few months after they got married.

She decided to step in and start this intervention. The atmosphere in the room felt just right, full of love. I thought to myself, “Put the cuffs on, let’s go,” he said.

He stated that the help he received was life-saving and began his extended journey to get sober – and Nicole was with him every step of the way.

The couple, parents to daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, have been separated since the beginning of summer.

While Urban was on tour, he left their home in Nashville. Nicole remained behind with their children and managed a demanding film schedule in London. She rented a luxurious mansion for $87,000 per month while filming the sequel to Practical Magic.

According to sources, the distance between them became clearer after Nicole’s mother passed away in September 2024. ‘It was as if they each started living completely separate lives,’ a source shared with Woman’s Day.

Their final public outing together, at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match in June, suggested there might have been some friction between them.

Oh my gosh, I’ve been analyzing every single photo and video of Nicole and Keith, and body language expert Louise Mahler is *spot on*! I noticed it too – Nicole was constantly fiddling with her left hand, like she was nervous or uncomfortable. And Keith? He was totally avoiding eye contact with her! It’s so strange, because they’re usually all over each other, so this is a *huge* departure from their normal, affectionate behavior. It’s just… concerning, honestly!

Urban has previously spoken about how close their marriage came to falling apart.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was *watching* the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala last year, and he actually *said* it! He confessed that they got married in 2006, but can you believe it? Just *four months* into being married, his struggles with addiction – things he hadn’t dealt with before – completely destroyed everything. He said it blew their marriage to smithereens, and it just broke my heart! I’ve been following him for years, and to hear him be so honest… it was just so raw and real. It’s just… devastating, honestly. I can’t even.

Even though they’ve separated, people close to them hint that getting back together isn’t out of the question – however, their packed schedules make it difficult.

Urban continues to tour, while Nicole balances family life with her filming commitments.

Last June, Keith Urban surprised everyone at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, where they were celebrating Nicole Kidman. He openly shared that his struggles with addiction nearly destroyed his marriage.

We married in 2006, but just four months later, the addictions I hadn’t addressed completely destroyed our marriage,” he started.

Keith admitted he was battling addiction at the time he met Nicole.

But with her support, he eventually managed to pull through.

Just four months after getting married, I found myself in rehab for three months, completely uncertain about the future of our relationship.

‘Nic pushed through every negative voice – I’m sure even some of her own – and she chose love.

‘And here we are tonight 18 years later. Her capacity to love is like no one I’ve ever met.’
